Apex to honor four baseball greats

Apex High plans to honor four of its best baseball players during a halftime ceremony this Friday in its boys basketball home game against Holly Springs.

Tim Federowicz, Michael Knox, Matt Mangini and Seth Frankoff -- all of whom are currently playing at the major and minor league level -- will be honored with a banner to be placed along the baseball field's outfield wall this spring.

Parents beaming after FedEx home run

OMAHA, Neb. — Joe Federowicz fielded at least a dozen calls and watched SportsCenter at least a four times in the 12 hours immediately after his son, North Carolina catcher Tim, smashed a ninth inning grand slam Friday night that kept the Tar Heels from being eliminated from the College World Series.

"Tim has hit home runs before, but not in this position — bases loaded, two outs, at the College World Series,'' Joe Federowicz said in a phone interview from Apex this morning. "As a dad, you know he can do it, but I was just thinking, 'get a base hit.'"
