Football season is done.
And week-by-week, it was the best I've done in picking Tri-Nine games.
One team left.
And it's the team that has given me the most trouble this year in my picks.
See those 10 incorrect picks (out of 58)? Half of them are from Middle Creek games. For a team I said in the beginning of the year would win the Tri-Nine, I sure had no feel for what they were going to do week-in and week-out. I had them losing 3 games they won and as winning two games they lost. Anyway, I've got at least one more week to see if I can't figure this out.
Read my preview for this week's games, then continue to my picks below.
JMB's record so far: 48-10 (5-1 in playoffs)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 14 on season (I'm still awful)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Middle Creek at Jack Britt
What more can I say? Cary has a chance to go take out the best team in Fayetteville in their place and Fuquay gets its chance at revenge against bitter rival Middle Creek. I can't wait to see what this game does to the rivalry between the two (which is slowly growing on me as better than Cary-Apex).
Read my preview for this week's games, then continue to my picks below.
JMB's record so far: 47-9 (4-0 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 14 on season (I'm AWFUL at this)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Fuquay-Varina at Middle Creek
The playoffs are here!
I'm almost more relieved than happy. After this Friday, I think we'll see a big reduction in horrible suggestions on how the NCHSAA can improve its playoff set-up. I'd fill you in on some and why they're atrocious, but that is way too much to go into right now.
Instead, read my preview for this week's games, then continue to my picks below.
JMB's record so far: 43-9 (3-1 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 12 on season
GAME OF THE WEEK
Panther Creek at Middle Creek
One last week of the football season, and I'm sure more people are worried about who lands where in the playoffs than how many games I pick correctly this week. Undaunted by your apathy, I have made them anyway.
BUT FIRST, read my preview for this week's games.
JMB's record so far: 40-8 (4-1 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 11 on season
GAME OF THE WEEK
Cary at Athens Drive
As you may know, I was on furlough last week and had to make my predictions known via Twitter at the last possible moment Sunday night. Six full days later, I was correct on four of the five picks -- the fifth one ended in a tie.
Now that I'm back, I'm making picks this week's picks with less than six hours before the games! Oh well.
Here is my preview for this week's games. READ IT FIRST.
JMB's record so far: 36-7 (4-0 last week -- I threw out the tied game)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 7 (did not do margin of victory last week)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Holly Springs at Middle Creek
My Tri-Nine preview for the week is here. READ IT FIRST.
JMB's record so far: 32-7 (3-1 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 7 (zero last week)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Athens Drive at No. 7 Fuquay-Varina
I'm 9-1 over the past two weeks, but that's not the thing I'm most proud of. Things are shaping up that my preseason predictions won't be a disaster, and that's an accomplishment considering how uncertain some things were going into this year.
My Tri-Nine preview for the week is here. READ IT FIRST.
JMB's record so far: 29-6 (4-0 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 7 (2 last week)
GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 7 Middle Creek at Panther Creek
Two big games this week in the Tri-Nine, as the front-loaded conference schedule continues to turn. If Panther Creek and Middle Creek each win, all of a sudden they're in front. If Fuquay and Cary win, then they create a four-way tie with all four teams having just a "1" in the conference loss column.
My Tri-Nine preview is here for your enjoyment.
JMB's record so far: 25-6 (4-1 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 5 (2 last week)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Panther Creek at No. 8 Fuquay-Varina
Cary may consider itself the best defense in the area. Leesville Road might as well.
But let's just look at the numbers, OK? Nobody has shut down more teams than I have.
I've been to four games this year and seen three shutouts (Green Hope def. Smithfield-Selma 38-0, Panther Creek def. Sanderson 50-0, Cary def. Apex 34-0). Understand, I don't think I've ever been to three shutouts in one season before. This is uncanny.
Also laying a goose egg last week? My losses. A perfect 5-0 to get me back on the right track. Read this week's Tri-Nine preview here, then read the rest of this blog for my weekly picks.
JMB's record so far: 21-5 (5-0 last week)
Games within 7 points of winning margin: 3 (zero for the second straight week.. I'm bad at this part)
GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 9 Fuquay-Varina at No. 2 Cary
