Wake County school board appoints three area superintendents and a principal

The Wake County school board appointed three top administrators and a principal last week.

Howard "Todd" Wirt was hired to become the assistant superintendent for academics with a salary of $120,000. Wirt has been the executive director for secondary education for the Mooresville Graded School District since 2011.

Clinton Robinson will become the southwestern area superintendent with a salary of $120,000. He had been principal of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School since September.

Principals named to Enloe High School and other Wake County schools

Wake County school leaders announced tonight the appointments and transfers of seven permanent and seven interim principals.

Scott Lyons was named principal of Enloe High in Raleigh with a salary of $99,666. He's been principal of Leesville Road High since 2009. He used to be an assistant principal at Enloe.

Christopher McCabe will be principal of Heritage Middle in Wake Forest with a salary of $93,303. He's been principal of North Forest Pines Drive Elementary since 2007.

Enloe High principal to oversee magnet school program

The Wake County school board announced tonight that two schools are getting new principals and that Enloe High School's principal is moving to Central Office to oversee the magnet school program.

Beth Cochran, Enloe's principal since 2005, will now become the senior director of magnet programs. Enloe, located in East Raleigh, is the school system's flagship magnet school.

Wade Martin was named principal of Middle Creek High in Cary with a salary of $94,700 a year. He's been principal of Martin Middle since 2006.

School board sees dissent on principal appointments

Normally, the Wake County school board approves principal appointments unanimously.

But tonight, the board voted 6-2 on the entire list of administrative appointments presented to them. School board vice chairman John Tedesco and board member Debra Goldman didn't specify which one(s) they opposed.

School board makes high school principal changes

The Wake County school board moved one high school principal to Central Office this evening and transferred another principal to a different school.

John Williams, the principal of Middle Creek High School in Cary, was appointed senior director for high school education. The job became open after Ruth Steidinger switched to being senior director for middle school education.

Williams opened Middle Creek in 2001 and will leave the school on Nov. 1. Thomas Dixon will serve as interim principal at Middle Creek, Dixon, the former longtime principal of Apex High School, will receive a salary that's equivalent to $131,580 a year.

School board fills new position of assistant superintendent for special education

The Wake County school board reached into Superintendent Tony Tata's former school district tonight to fill the new position of assistant superintendent for special education services.

Lisa Grillo, a former special education teacher who is currently a principal in D.C. Public Schools, was hired for the new assistant superintendent's position. Tata was D.C.'s chief operating officer before being hired by Wake.

Tata created Grillo's new position as part of a reorganization of his leadership team. Her salary was not immediately known.

Grillo's salary is $120,000.

Interim principal named at Carroll Middle School

The Wake County school board appointed an interim principal this evening to Carroll Middle School in North Raleigh.

Thomas Dixon, the former longtime principal of Apex High, will come out of retirement to run Carroll. He'll receive a prorated salary based on an annual amount of $116,677.

Dixon's contract at Carroll is from Jan. 3-31.
