*NOTE: Due to baseball, last night's "X-Factor" will air tonight, and tonight's "X-Factor" will air on Sunday. Or something like that. Just consider the Fox schedule in flux until the World Series ends and take anything you see here about Fox with a grain of salt.

THE NEW FALL SEASON: "The Secret Circle"

NC-born Kevin Williamson executive produces "The Secret Circle" (9 tonight, the CW), about an orphaned girl (Britt Robertson) who moves in with her grandmother (to a town where everybody is remarkable good looking) and learns from other teens in town that she's a witch.

If she combines powers with them, the group may discover what happened to their parents 16 years earlier -- many of whom have died. It's a fun companion to "The Vampire Diaries," although, at least in the first ep, not as flat-out scary or gruesome.

But of course, witches can kill you in more ways than vampires can, so let the body count begin.

What to Watch on Thursday: Lives on the line in 'Vampire Diaries' finale

Community (8pm, NBC) - The Season 2 finale concludes last week's paintball storyline. The study group unite to take down new intruders and common enemies during the intense battle.

What to Watch on Thursday: 'Community' trips down memory lane

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Someone is cut loose. Season 7 winner David Cook (who?) and Katy Perry perform.

Community (8pm, NBC) - The group reminisce about fun times in a series of flashbacks, including a trip to a ghost town and a glee club performance. NOTE: All of the NBC comedies are new tonight. The good news: no 'Outsourced.' The bad news: 'The Paul Reiser Show' is on and it's even worse. Everything else is solid. Will Ferrell is back on 'The Office' and his first big task is emceeing the Dundies. On 'Parks & Recreation,' Leslie joins an internet dating site and gets matched with someone she already knows. And in a one-hour episode of '30 Rock,' NBC execs mark 'TGS' for cancelation.

What to Watch on Thursday: Paul Reiser's new show? Not so much.

Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Elena and Stefan attend a 1960s Decade Dance at school, but Klaus arrives after having taken possession of Alaric's body. His plan is to capture Elena and sacrifice her to end the vampire curse.

The Paul Reiser Show (8:30pm, NBC) - Paul Reiser ('Mad About You') returns in a sitcom loosely based on his own life. Reiser plays a TV star who has been out of the business for awhile, but auditions for a Mark Burnett game show after he learns that Larry David ('Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Seinfeld') is also interested. We didn't get an advance copy, but reviews have been universally horrible. I want 'Perfect Couples' back!!!

The Office (9pm, NBC) - As Michael trains his replacement (Will Ferrell), the staffers scramble to impress him. Ferrell isn't a permanent replacement, obviously. He'll be on the show for four episodes. Note: All of the NBC comedies are new tonight, so don't forget to check out 'Community' (8pm), 'Parks and Recreation' (9:30), '30 Rock' (10pm), and, I guess, 'Outsourced' (10:30).

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - One of the nine finalists is eliminated. Don't forget to keep track of all things McCreery at our Scotty Watch home base.

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - TVD finally returns! Tonight, Isobel arrives unexpectedly and her visit upsets Jenna. Also, Matt informs the sheriff that his sister was killed by a vampire.

Perfect Couples (8:30pm, NBC) - The series finale for this underrated and underappreciated sitcom has Vance and Amy getting cold feet at their wedding (no cliffhangers, please). Meanwhile, Dave and Julia prepare their toasts for the weddings, and Leigh exerts her power as wedding planner while Rex tries to make himself part of the big day. I'll miss you, guys!

The Killing (9pm, AMC) - If you missed Sunday's premiere, catch it here.

LisaRaye: The Real McCoy (9pm, TVOne) - In the second season opener, LisaRaye goes to Puerto Rico but her assistant loses some of her possessions.

The Bear Whisperer Returns (10pm, Animal Planet) - A series following wildlife specialist Steve Searles as he protects tourists from black bears in Mammoth Lakes, California. In this first episode, he has to make a tough decision about a wounded bear. Okay, right there, I can tell you I am not watching this show.

Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - Derek takes Cristina (right) on a fishing trip to escape her troubles despite Meredith's objections. Meanwhile, Teddy directs all of her energy on an uninsured dying patient, played by Scott Foley.

The Kennedy Detail (9pm, Discovery Channel) - This got pulled by Discovery at the last minute last week, and I have no idea why. It's airing tonight. It's a special in which President John F. Kennedy's assassination is discussed by members of the Secret Service detail charged with protecting him on the day he was  killed.

Burn Notice (10pm, USA) - Michael's brother Nate gets into trouble and Michael has to help him, while Sam and Jesse try to prevent the sale of sensitive government documents to bad guys. I feel like I've seen this episode about five (hundred) times.

What to Watch on Thursday: Crime on "Community," "Burn Notice" returns

Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Katherine's past is explored in 1490 Bulgaria, and Damon tries to uncover the real purpose of the mysterious moonstone.

The First 48 (9pm, A&E) - Detectives in the terrifying crime mecca of Charlotte, North Carolina, investigate the murder of a man who was shot behind his girlfriend's house. Charlotte is one of the cities regularly featured in the current season of "The First 48."

Burn Notice (10pm, USA) - In the midseason return, Michael (right) tries to prevent a bombing arranged by a lawyer out for revenge against a local gang. Elsewhere, Michael and Jesse must track down a highly sensitive document that has been stolen.
