What to Watch on Thursday: Ron Swanson trick-or-treats on 'Parks & Rec'

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Connor attempts to uncover town secrets and tries to convince Jeremy to help him. Meanwhile, Elena finds it difficult to control her anger when Rebekah arrives at school.

Big Bang Theory (8pm, CBS) - Leonard tries a scientific approach to seducing Penny. Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin has a cameo.

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - Liz and Jack square off in a political battle to influence voters in the 2012 presidential election.

Person of Interest (9pm, CBS) - Reese and Finch face an ethical dilemma when the Machine gives them the number of a mob enforcer who's in danger.

Parks and Recreation (9:30pm, NBC) - Halloween brings some upsetting news for Leslie in the form of a job offer for Ben. At the same time, Ron (Nick Offerman, left) and Andy go trick-or-treating with Diane's (Lucy Lawless, left) daughters, while Tom looks for a new business venture.

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - The parents of a missing college student seek help from the firm, while David gets unexpected assistance with a case he's investigating. Also, Mellie wields her political influence, creating tension for Fritz.

Elementary (10pm, CBS) - A Wall Street executive dies from an apparent heroin overdose, but Holmes isn't convinced. Meanwhile, Watson starts dating again.

What to Watch on Thursday: Vampires and a VP debate

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - Political satire at "TGS" drives a wedge between Liz and Jack. Elsewhere, Liz and Criss spice up their relationship, and Jenna is demoralized by the sluggish sales of her summer dance song.

Last Resort (8pm, ABC) - A search for three missing crew members leads Chaplin to Serrat's compound. Meanwhile, Sinclair and Shepard hold a secret meeting.

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Season 4 begins with Elena (Nina Dobrev) waking up after her car accident and realizing she died with vampire blood in her system. Now she must go through the horrible transition to become a vampire, or she must die.

Beauty and the Beast (9pm, CW) - In this retelling of the classic fairy tale, a homicide detective teams with a man who takes on incredible but uncontrollable strength when he's enraged. Adrienne reviews.

Vice Presidential Debates (9pm) - The debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan, live from Danville, Kentucky, will air on ABC, CBS, NBC, UNC-TV, Fox, Fox News, MSNBC and CNBC.

Project Runway (9pm, Lifetime) - In part 1 of the 2-part finale, the remaining contestants return from hometown visits to present three looks to judges.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (10pm, FX) - In the eighth season premiere, Dennis and Dee must make a life-or-death decision about their ailing grandfather. Meanwhile, Mac, Charlie and Frank discover that the old man used to be a Nazi.

The League (10:30pm, FX) - In the fourth season premiere, preparations are made for the arrival and Kevin and Jenny's baby, and Taco is invited to the Dallas Cowboys' training camp.

Brand X With Russell Brand and Totally Biased With Kamau Bell also return to FX tonight, at 11 and 11:30 respectively.

What to Watch on Thursday: Seasons are over for 'Big Bang,' 'Vampire Diaries'

Big Bang Theory (8pm, CBS) - The fifth season ends with Howard and Bernadette deciding to get married before his NASA mission, which causes the gang to scurry into overdrive to stage the wedding. NASA astronaut Mike Massimino has a cameo as himself.

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - The third season concludes with Elena wishing she could go back to simpler times when her parents were alive.

Community (8pm, NBC) - Abed develops a conspiracy theory and determines that Dean Pelton is an impostor. His search for the truth lands him in mandatory therapy sessions after he's caught sneaking around campus.

Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - The residents make their postresidency decisions. Also, Mark tells Derek that he's torn between Lexie and Julia, and Arizona encourages a childhood friend to have surgery.

The Secret Circle (9pm, CW) - In the Season 1 finale, Cassie and Diana tap into dark magic to help Faye fight off the Witch Hunters.

The Mentalist (10pm, CBS) - Jane receives a message from Red John on the eighth anniversary of the deaths of his wife and daughter.

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - As Gideon investigates Amanda's past, flashbacks recall the contentious primary race between Fitz and Sally Langston, who is now vice president. We also see how Olivia and Fitz first met on the campaign trail and how each of her associates joined her team.

What to Watch on Thursday: Deaths on 'Community' and 'Parks and Rec'

Community 8pm, NBC) - The death of a classmate gives Britta a chance to play counselor to the others by using the psychology lessons she's recently learned, but Jeff appears unaffected by the loss. 

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Klaus tries to leave town with Elena, but he encounters resistance from a new enemy. Meanwhile, Bonnie gets Abby to help her with a difficult and dangerous spell. 

Parks and Recreation (9:30pm, NBC) - Leslie embarks on a bus tour on the final day of her campaign, but she becomes distracted by the sudden death of an important person in Pawnee. Elsewhere, Andy investigates a security threat, while Chris discovers a surprising cure for his depression. 

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - The disappearance of Amanda Tanner gives Huck an opportunity to dust off his espionage skills to find out where she is. Meanwhile, the firm defends a pilot's reputation from accusations after a commercial plane crashes with no survivors.

The Mentalist (10pm, CBS) - Lisbon encounters her ex-fiancé while investigating a surfer's homicide, and Cho has doubts about continuing his romance with Summer. 

Independent Lens: Circo (10pm, UNC-TV) - Filmmaker Aaron Schock follows the proprietors of a struggling, family-run Mexican circus as they travel the back roads of the countryside in hopes of recapturing the success of the show's earlier years. 

What to Watch on Thursday: A bit of 'West Wing' on 'Parks and Rec'

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Tyler returns to Mystic Falls and soon suspects that something has been going on between Caroline and Klaus.  

Parks and Recreation (9:30pm, NBC) - When Leslie (Amy Poehler) learns that the Parks Dept. budget is about to be cut, she persuades Councilman Pillner (Bradley Whitford, "The West Wing") to make the cuts elsewhere, but there are unforeseen consequences for her campaign. Also, Ron and Chris visit a meditation center together. Bonus: Poehler and Whitford get to do a "West Wing"-style "walk and talk," plus, it's a mini "West Wing" reunion with Rob Lowe, who plays state auditor Chris Traeger.

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - The team reluctantly helps a millionaire's son accused of rape. Meanwhile, Olivia takes on Amanda Tanner as a client, but can't put her own past with the President behind her when Amanda asks to meet with him.

Jesus Conspiracies (10pm, Discovery) - Scholars try to determine what Jesus did from ages 12 to 30 in the opener of a new series chronicling the life of Jesus via documents and artifacts from the Holy Land and the Vatican.

Awake (10pm, NBC) - I'm not giving up on pushing this show on you, even if it may get canceled. Tonight, Britten helps a couple adapt to the witness-protection program, inspiring him to prepare for his own new life in Oregon with his wife.

What to Watch on Thursday: 'Community' returns, 'Missing' debuts

Missing (8pm, ABC) - Becca Winstone, played by Ashley Judd, is a former CIA operative who searches for her son when he disappears while studying abroad in Italy. I wish this was better than it is. I really do. Here's my review.

Community (8pm, NBC) - It's back! Andre (Malcolm Jamal Warner) and Shirley plan to remarry, throwing Annie and Britta into wedding-planning mode. Meanwhile, Jeff prepares a wedding speech and Troy and Abed practice acting normal. All NBC comedies are new tonight.

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Damon recalls murders from 1912 that are eerily similar to a present-day crime spree. Meanwhile, Elena and Matt try to prove that Dr. Fell is a killer.

Project Runway All-Stars (9pm, Lifetime) - In part one of the two-part season finale, the final three designers race against time to spin out their signature lines for a red carpet VIP show.

Awake (10pm, NBC) - Michael's parallel realities begin spinning into chaos when his son is kidnapped by an on-the-lam convict who has a connection to Michael's past. In his other dimension, Michael searches for a missing teenage boy. Developments in both worlds cause others to doubt his sanity.

Archer (10pm, FX) - In part one of the Season 3 finale, Archer and his ISIS colleagues boldly go to the final frontier to prevent a catastrophe aboard the International Space Station.

Jersey Shore (10pm, MTV) - In the Season 5 finale, Mike starts a rumor about Denna's sister and Pauly and Vinny pull another prank on the roommates.

What to Watch on Thursday: Louis C.K. returns to 'Parks and Recreation'

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Elena learns about a startling indiscretion by Damon, while Bonnie and Abby take part in a ritual to appease the spirits of nature.

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - A performance round is held in Las Vegas.

Parks and Recreation (8:30pm, NBC) - Leslie and Ben have an awkward run-in with Leslie's old flame Dave (Louis C.K., left with Amy Poehler), and Andy writes a theme song for Leslie's campaign. Does this mean Mouse Rat may get back together???

NCSU at Duke (9pm, WRAL) - N.C. State plays at Duke. You can find normally scheduled CBS shows airing on WRAL after 1:30 am.

Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview (9pm, OWN) - Oprah Winfrey's 2009 interview with Whitney Houston, who discusses her personal life, including her marriage to Bobby Brown.

Private Practice (10pm, ABC) - Cooper and Charlotte take Erica to Seattle Grace to meet with Derek, Lexie and Amelia about Erica's risky surgery.

Archer (10pm, FX) - Malory turns to Archer and Lana for help when she finds herself in a compromising situation with the Italian prime minister.

What to Watch on Thursday: Strange romance on a one-hour '30 Rock'

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Elena attends a formal ball at Klaus' newly renovated mansion and learns of a horrifying plan that could lead to numerous deaths.

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - In a one-hour dose of "30 Rock," Liz and Criss (James Marsden, left) decide to celebrate Valentine's Day but must first purchase a new dining table. Also, Jack spends time with his mother-in-law, Jenna anticipates her first live performance on "America's Kidz Got Singing," and Lutz seeks a special person to share the holiday with.

Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - It's also Valentine's Day over on "Grey's," where Lexie and Mark are babysitting for both Meredith and Derek and Callie and Arizona. Also, the ER fills with sick and/or broken romantics.

The Finder (9pm, Fox) - Walter helps an amateur magician look for his assistant, who vanished after a disappearing act, but the trail also leads to a counterfeit operation.

The Mentalist (10pm, CBS) - Jane hurries to prove a murder suspect is not guilty while the case is deliberated by a jury. Also, Cho realizes his informant may have crossed a line while trying to assist him.

What to Watch on Thursday: FX animation and Grammer returns to '30 Rock'

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - Liz is forced to do damage control when a crude rant by Tracy leaks on the Internet. Also, Kenneth and Jenna once again enlist Kelsey Grammer (playing himself) to help with a problem.

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Bonnie is reunited with her estranged mother, and Klaus negotiates with Stefan to control the coffins of his family members.

Parks & Recreation (8:30pm, NBC) - Leslie and Ben clash while working on her first campaign ad. Elsewhere, Chris tries to befriend Ron, making Ron very uncomfortable. Paul Rudd guest stars as the candidate challenging Leslie.

The Mentalist (10pm, CBS) - Jane investigates the death of a mob boss's son, and Van Pelt is haunted by memories of O'Laughlin's shooting. NOTE: This follows the Boston College vs. NCSU basketball game on WRAL. If the game goes over, "The Mentalist" will be joined in progress. This also means CBS's 8 p.m. through 10 p.m. shows ("Big Bang Theory," "Rob" and "Person of Interest") will be preempted. Here's the basic rule of thumb for finding your shows whenever this happens with WRAL programming.

American Stuffers (10pm, Animal Planet) - This bizarre series follows a family of taxidermists in Romance, Arkansas. Tonight, a job to preserve a Chihuahua comes with a thinly veiled threat from the deceased dog's owner, who may or may not be joking.

Archer (10pm, FX) - In the Season 3 premiere, Sterling is upset when he learns that Mallory is dating his hero (and man-crush) Burt Reynolds, who provides his own voice. He's more upset about that than he is about the fact that a Cuban hit squad is out to get him.

Unsupervised (10:30pm, FX) - A new animated comedy about two teen best friends with no parental supervision. In tonight's premiere, Gary and Joel want to hook up with girls but realize that they're considered just kids, so they set out to change their image.

What to Watch on Thursday: 'Project Runway All Stars' debuts

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Klaus threatens violence unless Stefan returns the coffins containing his family members, but Elena tries to strike a deal with him.

Project Runway All Stars (9pm, Lifetime) - Thirteen fan-favorite designers from past seasons return to compete for new prizes. Supermodel Angela Lindvall hosts and Joanna Cole serves as the mentor. Some of the designers returning are Austin Scarlett, Mondo Guerra, and Kenley Collins. Sounds good, but we're just not sure we can love a "Project Runway" without Tim Gunn.

Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - As the human wreckage from a serious car crash preoccupies the doctors, Teddy (who is unaware that Henry has died) calls on Cristina to help with a patient.

Louder Than a Bomb (9pm, OWN) - A documentary directed by Jon Siskel profiles four high school poetry teams in Chicago as they gear up to compete in an important youth poetry slam.

24 Hour Catwalk (10pm, Lifetime) - A new series in which four fashion designers attempt to create a collection and stage a runway show in just 24 hours. Note: Tonight's episode is considered a "sneak preview" of the series, which officially premieres on January 10.

Jersey Shore (10pm, MTV) - In the Season 5 premiere, the cast returns to Seaside Heights, N.J., and it doesn't take long for old tensions to flare.
