Local fan was there for Oprah's beginning

Millions of people will tune in today for the final episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show." One devoted Oprah fan who will be glued to the screen for every last minute is a local woman who met the talk show queen way back when.

Linda V. Eldridge of Four Oaks isn't just a casual Oprah fan.  She was actually a guest on the show back in 1987, during the first week of Oprah's second season on air.

Eldridge says the topic of the show was something along the lines of "Don't be afraid to marry down" -- a look at women who picked mates based solely on their socio-economic status.

Watch for locals on the new "Nate Berkus Show"

Design star Nate Berkus debuts his new afternoon talk show next week, and some local moms are looking forward to reliving their time in Nate's blue-eyed spotlight.

For a segment in an upcoming episode of "The Nate Berkus Show," Nate met with Chapel Hill author and educator Dr. Amy Tiemann as part of his nationwide "listening tour" to find out what is on the minds of moms in America. Chapel Hill was the first stop in the tour.

Nate sat down with Dr. Tiemann and four other local moms (Emily Faison, Rhonda Boyke, Trish Krautheimer, and Tatiana Brown) to talk about their struggle to take care of themselves while also taking care of others.

Elizabeth Edwards will appear on Nate Berkus Show

Elizabeth Edwards will appear on "The Nate Berkus Show" during the show's premiere week in September.

According to a press release for the show, the Chicago designer made famous by Oprah Winfrey will interview Edwards at her Red Window furniture store in Chapel Hill and will also visit her Chapel Hill home (which is for sale).

Locals hope for shot at their own talk show from Oprah

With more than 3,800 entries so far, it's no wonder we have some locals hoping Oprah Winfrey's "Your Own Show" contest can help them launch new careers.

Corey Brown of Cary has entered the competition, through which Oprah intends to discover the next big star for her new OWN network. In his audition, Corey touts his enthusiasm and personality as reasons why he should get a show, as well as his academic credentials.

Corey is a 25-year-old student getting his masters degree from NC Central University in mental health counseling (he has an undergraduate degree in marketing). He's married and has a two-year-old daughter.

Bret Michaels talks to Oprah about his brush with death

Poison frontman and reality TV star Bret Michaels appears on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today to talk about the subarachnoid brain hemorrhage he suffered last month.

It's his first televised interview since the incident, which nearly took his life. Oprah asked Bret about wearing his trademark bandana even while in the hospital and he said: "Its like Superman without the cape. I said, 'If I'm
going out, I want to go out rockin'.'"

Bret is currently a finalist on "Celebrity Apprentice," and the winner is annoucnced live on the show this Sunday night. He still tours with Poison, who is scheduled to go back on the road this month, and also stars in a popular VH1 reality show called "Rock of Love." (If you're wondering why practically everyone you know in their 30s and 40s adores Bret Michaels, here's why.)

Andrew Young chides Rielle Hunter on GMA for "lack of regret"

Former John Edwards aide Andrew Young appeared on "Good Morning America" this morning to respond to Rielle Hunter's interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" yesterday.

Young appeared with his wife Cheri, and were interviewed by GMA anchor George Stephanopolous. Young told Stephanopolous that what struck him most about the Oprah interview was Hunter's "lack of regret" and her reluctance to accept any responsibility for her actions. "As long as their cosmic needs were satisfied, everything else was subordinated," he said.

Recap of Rielle Hunter interview on "Oprah"

Oh yeah, Oprah asked Rielle Hunter about all of it: the home wrecking, the paternity lies, the sex tape, the pantsless GQ photos, and much more.

In case you missed the interview today, here's how it went down.

Rielle started off her interview with Oprah by acknowledging that no one in her life thought the interview was a good idea. But she wanted to do it because she said it "felt more right after Johnny claimed paternity publicly."

That's right. She calls him "Johnny."

Preview of Oprah's interview with Rielle Hunter

In Rielle Hunter's interview with Oprah Winfrey, Hunter says Elizabeth Edwards did not know the full extent of her relationship with John Edwards until after John Edwards' "20/20" interview with Bob Woodruff. (Read more here.)

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's a clip on Oprah's website, previewing some of the other questions Oprah asks her.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" interview will air today at 4pm on WTVD.
