What to Watch on Thursday: Final season of '30 Rock' begins

The Next (8pm, CW) - The five finalists compete and a winner is crowned in the first season finale.

Last Resort (8pm, ABC) - Warships close in on the island and Prosser confronts Chaplin about a personal matter.

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - The seventh and final season of "30 Rock" opens with the "TGS" gang returning from hiatus, only to be shocked by Jack's awful fall programming lineup. Meanwhile, Jenna asks Liz to be her maid of honor.

Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - A flashback to the aftermath of the plane crash recounts how the victims dealt with the deadly disaster.

Glee (9pm, Fox) - In what I'm hearing is an exceptionally strong episode of "Glee," Rachel and Kurt get surprise visitors in New York City, and Will and Emma consider the implications of a new job offer.

Parks and Recreation (9:30pm, NBC) - Leslie helps a local swim team get more practice time by working on a new law that extends the hours at the community pool. Also, Ron finds himself personally filling a pothole for a local woman (Lucy Lawless) as part a new plan to solve citizens' problems.

Elementary (10pm, CBS) - Holmes investigates the  murder of a young man who was shot upon entering his apartment. Meanwhile, Watson meets her ex-boyfriend for dinner.

Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution (10pm, Comedy) - The second season begins with performances by comedians Trevor Noah and Dov Davidoff.

Elon grad competing on CW singing show

Elon graduate and country musician Jenny Leigh Freeman is the latest singer with local ties hoping to make it big on a national singing competition show.

Freeman is competing on the CW network's new series, "The Next," a show on which big music stars participate in an intense 72-hour mentoring session with an undiscovered singer, working to groom the up-and-comer for a chance at a record deal.

Freeman, a Maryland native who currently lives and performs in Baltimore, appeared on the August 23 episode of "The Next," where she was mentored by country singer John Rich. She competed against three other performers in the Baltimore round, and though she didn't win that round, she still has a chance to move to the semi-final round and compete against singers from Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas and Orlando.

That's where you come in. . . .

What to Watch on Thursday: New cooking show, new singing show (yawn)

The Next (9pm, CW) - Another singing show. For the love of .... Okay, in this one, music stars travel the U.S. to coach aspiring musicians who are competing for a record contract. Tonight, Gloria Estefan and Nelly hit the road.

Time Machine Chefs (9pm, ABC) - Accomplished chefs must create complicated meals in different historical settings, using only basic kitchen equipment. No Cuisinarts! The chefs are Art Smith, Chris Cosentino, Ilan Hall and Jill Davie.

Crime Inc (9pm, CNBC) - A report on the trade in counterfeit goods, from fake designer bags to wine and toothpaste.

Rock Center with Brian Williams (10pm, NBC) - Willie Geist gives a status report on the lives of Olympic athletes after their return home from London. Also, an interview with Ann Romney and a Scientology-based drug rehab program.

Rookie Blue (10pm, ABC) - "Rookie Blue," I am still mad at you. How could you do what you did to me? Tonight, in the aftermath of a tragic loss, the officers must recover a stolen laptop containing information that could compromise a drug informant, whose motives arouse suspicion in Sam and cause a rift between him and Andy. I'll watch, but I'm still mad.

Suits (10pm, USA) - Harvey tries to sway an important figure whose vote will determine the firm's future.

Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell (11pm, FX) - This debuted last week in the post-"Louie" spot formerly occupied by Russell Brand's mess of a show. This offering is much better. Each week, Bell riffs on current events in front of an audience, and occasionally does some street interviews or welcomes a guest (last week it was Chris Rock, who executive-produces the show). If you can track down last week's premiere, it's definitely worth a watch.
