According to the Hollywood Reporter, A&E has lowered the ax on "The Cleaner," the drama starring Benjamin Bratt.
The show finished what I thought was a stronger-than-the-first, 13-episode season this month.
On "The Cleaner," Bratt played a former drug addict who used extreme methods of intervention to help other addicts. With its cancellation, and the cancellation of "The Beast," the show that starred Patrick Swayze, A&E is out of the scripted drama business.
Maybe the network figured that with their hit "Intervention" they were telling the story of addiction powerfully already. And they have another hit in "Hoarders."
Still, it was nice having Bratt back on TV.

Shaq Vs. (9pm, ABC) - NBA star Shaquille O'Neal steps away from the basketball court to challenge other athletes in their chosen sport. Tonight Shaq trains with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then takes on QB Ben Roethlisberger. The challenge culminates with each man leading a team in a 7-on-7 game. Later in the series, Shaq will take on Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Oscar De La Hoya, and others.
Major League Baseball All-Star Game (8pm, Fox) - The All-Star game is back in St. Louis for the first time since 1966. Derek Jeter (left) was the top vote-getter in AL balloting.
The Cleaner (10pm, A&E) - William is asked to help a drug addicted star, but discovers the star's parents also need help. Shirley Jones guest stars (wouldn't it be cool if the troubled younger star was played by Danny Bonaduce or David Cassidy?).
