'Celebrity Apprentice': Jingle all the way

Filling in for Brooke on "The Celebrity Apprentice" recap this week -- the first episode since Clay Aiken's brush with firing. And our North Carolina home boy has another rough go of it as he gets caught between the ever-battling Bickersons -- comedian Lisa Lampanelli and former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza.

This week's task is to come up with a jingle for the Good Sam Club, which is apparently for RV enthusiasts. (We'll pause briefly for you to conjure up the highly unlikely image of Donald Trump cruising the backroads in some sort of gold-plated Winnebago with a big ole "T" on it.)

Because Clay, center, was project manager last week, he agrees to let Dayana, right, handle it this week. Hmmm, this could be a problem, seeing as how he's a professional singer and she knows so little about music that Clay actually has to explain to her that a jingle has nothing to do with "Jingle Bells." Still, he and Lisa, left, try to teach her. And for a while, they listen patiently while Dayana suggests a jingle that sounds like Duran Duran. Cause we all know RV drivers can't get enough "Hungry Like the Wolf."

Tonight, the show receiving the Impact Award is my all-time favorite, "Murphy Brown" (cast at left). Also honored, "One Day at a Time," "Laverne & Shirley," "In Living Color," and "Pee-wee's Playhouse."

The Celebrity Apprentice (9pm, NBC) - A very close call for Clay Aiken in the boardroom last week. Tonight, Clay clashes with Dayana Mendoza and loses it. Should be fun to watch.

The Big C (9:30pm, Showtime) - Cathy embraces new changes in her personal life, and Adam and Andrea deal with their personal issues in their own way.

GCB (10pm, ABC) - Amanda assemblese an all-female barbecue team for a cook-off. Meanwhile, Heather meets a handsome butcher and Sharon helps Zack with his dealership problems.

Veep (10pm, HBO) - The Veep is unexpectedly called to the White House Situation Room and later falls victim to a stomach bug that's going around.

'Celebrity Apprentice': Clay Aiken's brush with Success

Last night's "Celebrity Apprentice" was really too close for comfort for Clay Aiken fans. The Raleigh recording star came unbelievably close to being fired by Donald Trump after Clay's team lost the night's challenge. I personally thought Clay was a goner.

But let us back up a little before we get to the boardroom dramatics...

The episode began with Aubrey O'Day and Arsenio Hall both separately -- and hilariously -- assessing what's left of their team (it's the two of them plus Teresa Guidice).

Arsenio: "I'm stuck with two women now. One's damn near genius and the other is damn near not." I'm sure Arsenio meant to say "evil genius" in describing Aubrey. Obviously a slip.

Aubrey: "Arsenio is shifty and Teresa's not strong."

Okay, so -- go team!

What to Watch on Sunday: Tearjerkers, politics and Poitier

Firelight (9pm, ABC) - A Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about a counselor (Cuba Gooding Jr, left) at a Georgia correctional facility for young women who tries to help the inmates turn their lives around by forming a group of volunteers to battle forest fires, perform rescue missions and respond to natural disasters. Here's Adrienne's review.

The Killing (9pm, AMC) - Sarah receives a message from the dead that may shed light on the identity of Rosie's killer, and Mitch befriends a young runaway.

The Celebrity Apprentice (9pm, NBC) - The celebrities (including Clay Aiken, who is still going strong in the competition) must create an in-store display and a slogan for a new fragrance. But not without hitches, of course. Expect another big fight between Arsenio Hall and Aubrey O'Day. If you're behind on the show, you can catch up with our "Celebrity Apprentice" recaps.

Birdsong (9pm, UNC-TV) - Part 1 of a 2-part "Masterpiece Classic" presentation of an adaptation of the Sebastian Faulks novel about a British lieutenant in World War I whose memories of a prewar romance with a married French woman both sustain and haunt him.

Nurse Jackie (9pm, Showtime) - Jackie leaves rehab and finds that working at All Saints while sober is a little unsettling, and Zoey second-guesses her relationship with Lenny.

Veep (10pm, HBO) - In the premiere of a hilarious new comedy following the public and private lives of U.S. Vice President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, right) and her bumbling staff, the office goes into damage-control over a cornstarch gaffe (hard to explain). Check out my "Veep" review and a trailer from the show.

Mad Men (10pm, AMC) - Peggy  has a tough time during a particularly formidable pitch.

Oprah Presents Master Class (10pm, OWN) - In part 1 of a two-part interview, Sidney Poitier recalls how he made it to Hollywood from his childhood in the Bahamas, and how he overcame racial prejudice on his way up.

Girls (10:30pm, HBO) - Jessa doesn't show up for her appointment at a women's clinic, while Hannah is preoccupied by her own health issues. Later, Shoshanna reveals some surprising news.

'Celebrity Apprentice': Clay Aiken, the master puppeteer

Thanks to "Celebrity Apprentice," we now know that Clay Aiken can do almost anything.

He can sing (of course) and he can act. He can also write, direct, design and produce.

But the coolest thing Clay has done so far this season is display his mastery as an improvisational puppeteer.

For this week's challenge, the "Celebrity Apprentice" teams had to put on a show for the audience of Henson Alternative's Stuffed and Unstrung puppet show (which has a show in Durham this week!). Brian Henson, son of Jim, is the force behind "Stuffed and Unstrung," along with Patrick Bristow, who you may recognize from Ellen Degeneres' old sitcom "Ellen."

The teams had to design and build their own puppets, get some quick lessons on how to handle the puppets (which Clay didn't need -- thank you very much, Vacation Bible School!) and a rundown on the rules of improv, and then finally, perform the show.

What to Watch on Sunday: A Mike Wallace tribute and a batch of new shows

60 Minutes (7pm, CBS) - Tonight, a tribute to longtime "60 Minutes" correspondent Mike Wallace, who died last week at the age of 93.

Titanic (9pm, ABC) - The conclusion to Julian Fellowes' miniseries based on the sinking of the Titanic.

The Good Wife (9pm, CBS) - Alicia is forced back into the public spotlight by Peter's latest political rival.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood (9pm, UNC-TV) - An adaptation of Charles Dickens' unfinished story about an opium-addled choirmaster (played by Matthew Rhys, who was Kevin Walker on "Brothers & Sisters") who believes his nephew stands between him and the woman he fancies. When the nephew goes missing, the question is, did the uncle murder him or did someone else?

Nurse Jackie (9pm, Showtime) - Carmelo Anthony has a small part in tonight's episode, which focuses on Jackie's stint in rehab.

The Celebrity Apprentice (9pm, NBC) - Clay is still in the game. Tonight, the teams must design two original puppets and perform an improvisational show with a Henson Alternative troupe. Expect: drama drama drama.

NYC 22 (10pm, CBS) - A new series about six NYPD rookies trying to balance their personal lives with work. Tonight, rookies go on their first patrol and try to prevent a gang war and a domestic murder. Here's Adrienne's review.

Mad Men (10pm, AMC) - Tonight's cryptic episode summary: Lane makes an interesting friend and Pete plays host to an assortment of guests.

Girls (10:30pm, HBO) - In the premiere of a new comedy about a group of twentysomething women navigating life in New York, Hannah (Lena Dunham) gets shattering news from her parents and then loses her unpaid internship. This series is crazy good. Here's my full review.

'Celebrity Apprentice': You have to be 110% loyal

As promised, lots of fighting tonight! The show started with Arsenio Hall still ranting about Aubrey O'Day. When Lisa Lampanelli came in and heard the language he was using to describe Aubrey, she calmly suggested Arsenio might want to reconsider his choice of words.

Nah, just kidding. Lisa totally went off on Arsenio, screaming at him and calling him out for his language (b-word, w-word). Arsenio -- very correctly -- pointed out that Lisa is about the last person on earth who should be telling someone what kind of language to use. Lisa -- also correctly -- pointed out that Arsenio could be trashing his image and career by alienating women at home.

Lisa also made a comment to Teresa Guidice about how she felt bad for Aubrey being ganged up on by "those two" -- and I think she meant Arsenio and our boy, Clay Aiken, left.

What to Watch on Sunday: Some favorites return on Showtime

Titanic: The Final Word with James Cameron (8pm, NGC) - National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence James Cameron, who also directed the blockbuster "Titanic" film, assembles the world's leading experts on the sunken ship to investigate lingering mysteries of how and why the "unsinkable" ship sank.

Nurse Jackie (9pm, Showtime) - Season 4 opens as the hospital has been taken over by a multinational corporation and placed in the care of a no-nonsense doctor (Bobby Cannavale) who is eager to make changes to the hospital and staff. Meanwhile, Kevin and Jackie have split and Jackie's troubling encounter with a fellow drug user (Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong) helps propel her into rehab. I got to watch nearly the whole season and it's worth sticking with.

Great Expectations (9pm, UNC-TV) - The conclusion of newest version of the Charles Dickens classic. Tonight, Pip is in London, where his guardian explains his allowance. In time he learns the ways of gentlemen, and he falls further in love with Estella.

The Killing (9pm, AMC) - Sarah searches for Rosie's backpack, while Richmond comes to grips with his diagnosis of paralysis, and Mitch finally turns up.

Keep reading for more shows.

'Celebrity Apprentice': A comeback tour ends and Arsenio blows his top

The music ended for two contestants on last night's super-sized "Celebrity Apprentice" episode, both victims (in my humble opinion) of poor team leadership. But we'll get to that later (don't worry -- Clay Aiken is still safe). The most interesting part of last night's show was watching Arsenio Hall's slow burn build to a full inferno of hate, which engulfed his toxic -- but entertaining -- teammate Aubrey O'Day.

Just, wow. It's saying something when the person on your team most famous for crazy, violent freakouts (table-flipping reality star Teresa Guidice) is frightened by your outburst and thinks you might be unstable.
