Post 71 Sabres take Game 1 of Area I West Championship Series
Submitted by dclaybest on 07/14/2010 - 09:48Johnston County-based Post 71 rallied by Cary Post 67 11-9 Tuesday night to take Game 1 of their American Legion Baseball playoff series. North Carolina recruit Tate Parrish hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put Post 71 up 9-8.
The Sabres added to their lead in the ninth and held on for the win with Logan Smitherman picking up the victory in relief of Dane Hardee.
Game 2 of the five-game Area I West Championship Series is set for tonight (Wednesday) at Smithfield-Selma High School. First pitch is at 7 p.m.

Submitted by timstevens on 03/29/2010 - 09:59Tate Parrish, a pitcher and outfielder at Smithfield-Selma High, was incredible last week.
For the week, Parrish had nine hits in 11 official at-bats, picked up a pitching win and belted four home runs.
Parrish was 2-3 with a homer in a 14-3 Greater Neuse 4-A Conference win over Harnett Central.
He came back with three hits in four at-bats with two home runs in an 8-7 win over Princeton.
The University of North Carolina baseball recruit completed the week with four hits in four appearances in an 8-6 victory over West Johnston. Parrish threw a five-hitter for the win.
Parrish's big week for SSS included an .818 batting average, 4 HRs, 11 RBIs

Parrish, a North Carolina signee, was 9-for-11 at the plate in the Spartans' three wins. In addition to the .818 batting average, he hit four home runs and drove in 11 runs.
Parrish, a left-handed pitcher, switch-hitting outfielder and first baseman, also got the pitching win in SSS's victory over rival West Johnston on Friday night.
