What to Watch on Saturday: Piranhacondas, Cupcakes and the Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon: The Awakening (8pm, Lifetime) - Two high school students fall in love while marooned on a deserted tropical island after the girl falls overboard from a ship during a class trip to Trinidad and the boy jumps in to save her. And yes, it's a "reimagining" (I guess) of the Brooke Shields movie from 1980.

Operation Cupcake (8pm, Hallmark) - An Army colonel (Dean Cain, "Lois & Clark") returns home during a military leave but finds it difficult to fit in with his wife (Kristy Swanson) and kids, who've gotten used to not having him around. In an attempt to reconnect, he begins working at his wife's bakery, but his military management style does more harm than good. Adrienne reviews.

Piranhaconda (9pm, Syfy) - Syfy follows up their "Jersey Shore Shark Attack" Summer Saturday movie series with this low-budget gem about a piranha-anaconda hybrid that terrorizes a movie crew after a scientist steals an egg from the creature's nest.  Produced by Roger Corman and starring Michael Madsen and Rachel Hunter.

StandUp in Stilettos (10pm, TV Guide Network) - The premiere of a new series showcasing female comedians. This episode features Mary Lynn Rajskub, Gina Yashere and Sarah Tiana. At 10:30, Arden Myrin, Helen Hong and Lisa Landry.

The Deep End (10pm, Sundance Channel) - Every Saturday night, Robert Redford introduces distinguished independent films of recent years, offering a personal critique of each. Tonight's movie is "The Deep End," in which Tilda Swinton plays a mother who suspects her son has committed a murder and is then blackmailed by a stranger (Goran Visnjic) who claims to know the truth. Winner of the cinematography award at the Sundance Film.

The Firm (10pm, NBC) - For a canceled show, it doesn't seem like this is ever going to end. Tonight, Abby has an epiphany as she tries to save her mother's charity from a crooked accountant.

"Nail Files" is as fun as a mani/pedi

Two things might come to mind when you hear about "Nail Files" (TV Guide Network, 10 tonight) : 1) One day we will all have reality shows; 2) Does every (blank) to the stars have to have a reality show?

If you don't know, "Nail Files" follows Katie Cazoria, who owns a nail salon in Sherman Oaks, close enough for celebs like Debbie Gibson, Vanessa Hudgens, and others who need to have the very best in nail care.

Cazoria is a native New Yorker which means while she's adapted to the L.A. standard of blondeness and thinness, she's still kind of loud, speaks with her hands, and throws around plenty of cuss words. In other words, she's a character.

Dude, check it out. It's "Weeds Awareness Week"

The TV Guide Network thinks your life could use a little, uh, enhancement, so they've launched "National Weeds Awareness Week" to address the problems many Americans face in regularly accessing "Weeds." The best part of this news is that the network will celebrate the awareness week with a six-day "Weeds" marathon.

The TV Guide marathon will air from 9pm to 2am each night beginning Sunday, October 17th through Friday, October 22.

Special preview of "Survivor: Nicaragua"

If you're a "Survivor" fan, you won't want to miss tonight's "Survivor: Nicaragua Preview" show on TV Guide Network.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" hits basic cable with enhanced episodes

How does TV Guide Network handle the prolific use of profanity on "Curb Your Enthusiasm?" A heck of a lot better than A&E did with "Sopranos."

HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" makes its syndication debut on basic cable this week, hitting the TV Guide Network with uncut episodes and other enhancements that will take the show from the usual half-hour format to one full hour.

On HBO, "Curb" ran for a half-hour without commercials. TVGN runs commercials, but they aren't cutting the episodes to fit them in. Instead, they're expanding the show to a full hour, adding a celebrity discussion panel at the end of each episode.

"Curb: The Discussion" is hosted by Susie Essman, who plays Jeff's wife Susie on "Curb." Essman and a group of celebrities will watch an episode of "Curb" together, and then discuss the episode's moral and ethical dilemmas (such as, How long do you have to wait after your girlfriend's relative dies before you can break up with her?). The panel is actually pretty interesting (and funny), and their arguments are not unlike the watercooler dissections the show's fans engage in with friends and colleagues.

Showtime's "Weeds" coming to basic cable

The critically acclaimed and hilariously offbeat Showtime hit "Weeds" is coming to the TV Guide Network starting in September.

"Weeds" is about a suburban mom (Mary-Louise Parker) who finds herself broke when her husband dies suddenly, and she can't support her children in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed. She resorts to selling pot to her affluent neighbors (Kevin Nealon) but over time, her involvement in the drug trade escalates. Those escalations are alternately horrifying and hilarious.

The show is pretty profane at times, so it's likely to be heavily edited.

Guide to Oscar coverage

There's nearly 20 hours of original Oscar programming on television today. And as much as we love the Academy Awards Show, we admit that's ridiculous.

Ridiculously awesome.

Here's a brief guide to the countdown specials, the Red Carpet beat downs, and the brutal (we hope) after party coverage.
