What to Watch on Saturday: Which is better, dog or cat?

My Boys marathon (12:30pm, TBS) - In advance of the Season 4 premiere (tomorrow night), TBS is showing a marathon of the best episodes of their original comedy series, "My Boys." Today's 3-hour marathon features some of the best episodes of Season 3.

Dogs vs. Cats (8pm, Animal Planet) - A debate as old as time itself: which species is better, dogs or cats? I know where I come down (meow). I'm betting in the end they won't actually pick a side, but should be a fun show.

Persons Unknown (8pm, NBC) - Joe confesses to Janet what he knows about the kidnappers, then Blackham and Erika make a plan to use Joe in an escape attempt.

Being Human (10pm, BBC America) - Season 2 opens with the vampire society in complete disarray after Herrick's death, and George feels like a changed man after killing him. That is, until he discovers a horrible truth about Nina.

Tyler Perry tells TBS "Boondocks" isn't very funny

Turner Broadcasting is in hot water with mogul/Oprah friend Tyler Perry, according to the Los Angeles Times.

It all started when satirist Aaron McGruder came hard on Perry on the Father's Day episode of "The Boondocks," the cartoon that appears on the Turner-owned Cartoon Network, during its late night Adult Swim programming.

In the episode, a character very much like Tyler Perry offers the grandfather in "The Boondocks" a chance at fame. Winston Jerome is portrayed as a closeted cross-dresser who uses religion as a cover and a weapon. He's also a really bad writer. It's sometimes hilarious, sometimes homophobic and overall,  scathing. Naturally, Perry didn't like it one bit.

Conan O'Brien lands at TBS

Conan O'Brien, who very famously left NBC's "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" earlier this year after a shake-up involving Jay Leno and shifting time slots, will host a new late night talk show on TBS beginning in November.

The news is a bit of a surprise since industry watchers were betting on Conan moving to Fox, since his people have been in negotiations with them for awhile. Negotiations with TBS began only ten days ago. The New York Times has more on how the deal went down.

Conan's new show will air at 11pm, against "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report," both on Comedy Central. TBS already has a late night talk show at 11pm, hosted by George Lopez. Lopez will move to midnight, which is kind of funny considering the reason Conan left NBC to start with was because he didn't want his show moved to midnight.

TBS' "Lopez Tonight": Not very funny

After my foray through the new late night shows, one thing is pretty clear: it's not as easy as it looks.

I don't mean watching them (although that would apply), I mean hosting them. I should have appreciated Johnny Carson more. Letterman, and yes, even Leno -- you guys rock. Arsenio, kudos.

After having Mo'Nique yell at me for an hour (I've tuned in briefly again and either because of exhaustion or consult, she has gotten quieter) and seeing Wanda Sykes, start out pretty good and only to become an inconsistent muddle, I moved on, with high hopes, to "Lopez Tonight," with standup/actor George Lopez.

I think I laughed once.

Lopez Joins the Late Talkers

It's starting to get crowded out there.

TBS announced today that comedian/actor George Lopez will launch a new talk show at 11pm on the network starting in November.

They say it will have an "outdoor street-party atmosphere" with celebrity guest, live music and comedy acts. Audience members will have the chance to interact with guests and ask questions.

Lopez is working with one of the producers of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "The Bonnie Hunt Show" which bodes well, at least by Brooke's standards.

TV's NBA schedule lopsided

Tags: ABC | ESPN | NBA | TBS | TNT | Turner

Saw ABC/ESPN's Christmas Day NBA tripleheader lineup — New Orleans-Orlando (noon, ESPN), San Antonio-Phoenix (2:30 p.m., ABC), Boston-Los Angeles Lakers (5 p.m., ABC) — and got to thinking the New York Knicks haven't been televised nationally, it seems, since Phil Jackson played.

True, the Knicks have been horrible the past few years. but it's hard to believe that the team from the nation's No. 1 television market didn't warrant at least one slot on the 2008-09 regular-season schedule of live games carried by ABC, ESPN, TNT or TBS.

According to the NBA "map" the networks drew up for this season, the Eastern Conference is essentially made up of two teams, the Boston Celtics and LeBron Jameses; the Washington Wizards are actually relevant; New York doesn't exist; and Phoenix is the center of the universe.

The Knicks are one of five teams that aren't scheduled to be on national TV this season; the others are the Charlotte Bobcats, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings. Yet, the Wizards are somehow managing to make 11 appearances, though the schedules are subject to change.

Even Memphis, Oklahoma City and Milwaukee are being shown once each.

The Knicks, sitting at a semi-respectable 11-14 (the Wizards are 4-19), are considerably more competitive with new coach Mike D'Antoni's high-scoring offensive philosophy. The team D'Antoni left, the Phoenix Suns, are on national TV a league-high 26 times. (Teams from the stronger Western Conference are scheduled to be televised 166 times versus the Eastern Conference's 115.)

Here are the top teams, based on scheduled national telecasts:*

Phoenix   26

L.A. Lakers 25

Boston    25

Cleveland    24

Dallas    21

San Antonio    18

Denver    15

Detroit    14

*ABC's March 22 game hasn't been determined — it's listed as either Houston-San Antonio or Miami-Detroit — and was not counted.

CBS, Turner may team on Olympic rights bid

Tags: ABC | CBS | ESPN | Fox | NBC | Olympics | TBS | TNT

CBS and Time Warner executives have discussed joining forces to bid on rights to televise the Olympics in 2014 and 2016, which could create quite a competition of media companies, The Associated Press reports.

Incumbent NBC, Fox and ABC/ESPN have all said they expect to bid on the U.S. rights to the Games. The International Olympic Committee has postponed its bid selection until after the host city is named next October for the 2016 Summer Games, AP reports.

If CBS works with Time Warner, competition could be televised on CBS, TBS and TNT.

BC Universal has spread Games coverage across its properties, including CNBC, MSNBC, USA, Telemundo and a Web site. NBC has televised every Summer Olympics since 1988
