Durham 'Survivor' contestant previews new season

Kelly Bruno, the Durham resident and UNC-Chapel Hill medical student who hopes to be the next "Survivor," was interviewed about the new season this morning on CBS' "The Early Show."

Bruno, one of three North Carolinians competing on "Survivor: Nicaragua," has an interesting back story. She's an Ironman triathlete and an amputee. She was born with a birth defect and had her right leg amputated when she was an infant.

Special preview of "Survivor: Nicaragua"

If you're a "Survivor" fan, you won't want to miss tonight's "Survivor: Nicaragua Preview" show on TV Guide Network.

A trifecta of Tar Heels on "Survivor: Nicaragua"

Can the "Survivor" title come back to North Carolina this fall? It will have three good chances.

Three North Carolinians are on the cast of the new season, which starts on Wednesday, Sept. 15 on CBS. (Note the move to Wednesday nights.)

Fort Bragg military wife Sandra Diaz-Twine won the last "Survivor," the "Heroes Vs. Villains" season, in the spring. She became the first person to win two "Survivor" seasons, worth $1 million each.

Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson to compete on "Survivor"

I'm intrigued.

According to a report from the Dallas Morning News, former Dallas Cowboys football coach Jimmy Johnson will compete on the upcoming season of "Survivor: Nicaragua."

Johnson has won a college football championship and two Super Bowls. He is currently an NFL analyst for Fox Sports, but the "Survivor" filming schedule should allow him time to return to that job. Filming started in June.

Johnson is 67 years old and will be one of the oldest contestants ever on "Survivor." The Dallas Morning News article also says Johnson was almost a contestant on the last installment of "Survivor," but failed a physical. He has since lost weight.

"Survivor" airs on CBS and will return this fall.

'Survivor Reunion': Russell's The Biggest Loser

As Fayetteville resident Sandra Diaz-Twine prepares to cash her second $1 million check from CBS, it's time to close the book on the 20th season of "Survivor" – Heroes vs. Villains.

But first, some final thoughts on the season, courtesy of the reunion show. And like nearly everything else about this season, unfortunately, the reunion revolved a little too much around the egotistical, conniving super-Villain, Russell Hantz. So, let's go ahead and address him first.

"Survivor" fans upset at WRAL over tornado warnings

"Survivor" fans got a little hot Sunday night when WRAL pre-empted about 17 minutes of the show's big finale because of a possible tornado in the Fayetteville area.

According to WRAL's general manager Steve Hammel, the station received hundreds of complaints. Hammel addressed those complaints in a blog post on the station's website, pointing out, among other things, the station's obligation to warn viewers about severe weather.

According to the WarmTV recap, fans missed the elimination of Colby, but not the final action that revealed the million dollar winner, Sandra Diaz-Twine of Fayetteville.

'Survivor': And the winner is ...

We're down to the finals of Heroes vs. Villains, and host Jeff Probst promises us a thrilling finish. He notes that the final five includes two past winners of the million dollars (cut to images of Parvati and our Tar Heel home girl, Sandra). There also are two who made it to the finals previously, Probst says, and we get shots of Colby (who famously took the wrong person to the final two way back in Season 2 and lost to her) and Russell (who famously acted like a pompous jerk last season on his way to losing the final vote).

We then get an image of the fifth finalist, Jerri, as Probst tells us that the final five have more than 100 Tribal Councils between them. (Translation: Poor Jerri was neither a previous winner nor a finalist. She was the eighth person voted on the Australian Outback season.)

Before we get to the first of tonight's three Tribal Councils, the four Villains (Russell, Parvati, Sandra and Jerri) proceed to turn on each other as Colby, the last of the Hero tribe, just sits back and grins. "A dysfunctional family of Villains not getting along takes the attention off of me," he says.

What to Watch on Sunday: Finales from Wisteria Lane to the Pacific

There's a lot going on tonight. Shows are ending left and right, babies are born, bad guys are killed off, and valuable prize money is won or lost.

Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains (8pm, CBS) - The final castaways make it to the last Tribal Council, where the jury votes to see who gets the $1 million prize. The winner is announced on the reunion show immediately following at 10pm. So that's three straight hours of "Survivor." Yikes.

Desperate Housewives (9pm, ABC) - In the season 6 finale, Gaby puts herself in danger trying to help Angie and Danny escape the crazy terrorist guy trying to blow something up. Also, Lynette is stuck with the creepy little serial killer, who now knows she knows he's a serial killer. And she's in labor. Bree considers confessing to Carlos that herson Andrew ran over his mother years ago, and Susan holds a yard sale
because she is poor. Again. At least one someone dies.

Celebrity Apprentice (9pm, NBC) - In part one of a two-part finale, Trump goes wild and fires three of the remaining five contestants after they are all interviewed by former "Apprentice" winners Joan Rivers and Bill Rancic. The previews showed Sharon Osbourne crying (so help me, if Holly Robinson-Peete wins...).

Keep reading for info on finales for "Brothers & Sisters" and "The Pacific."

'Survivor': He ain't heavy, he's Colby's brother

We're in the homestretch of this Heroes vs. Villains season, and the remaining six contestants are going a bit loco. "I don't know what's going on right now," notes Villain Jerri. "This camp has turned into Crazy
Town!"

Chief Villain Russell gets his feelings hurt, leading Villainous Parvati to laugh at him. Hero Rupert, when not keeping the whole camp up as he chops wood, just wants to make out with his wife. Hero Colby has enough sibling rivalry going on to fill a couple of "Dr. Phil" episodes.

And Sandra, our North Carolina resident and the sassiest Villain of them all? She's taken to hiding immunity idols in her unmentionables.

'Survivor': Knocking out two for the price of one

Filling in for Thad on the recap, and I want to admit up front that I don't really watch "Survivor," so I'm not up on all the alliances and the relationships between the castaways. This is the recap that will make you really appreciate Thad when he returns.

My first impression in the first two minutes of watching this is that Russell is crazy. I mean like sleep-under-your-palm-tree-with-one-eye-open crazy.
