Rival makes offer for bankrupt Streets @ Southpoint owner General Growth

Simon Property Group, owner of Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield, MacGregor Village in Cary and North Ridge shopping center in Raleigh, has offered to buy its bankrupt rival General Growth Properties for more than $10 billion.

The deal, if completed, is unlikely to be noticed by Triangle shoppers.

Durham is getting a Nordstrom Rack

North Carolina is getting its first Nordstrom Rack, the lower-priced alternative to the Seattle chain that specializes in designer clothes and luxury goods.

The Nordstrom Rack will be in the Renaissance Center, just across the road from The Streets at Southpoint Mall in Durham where Nordstrom has been an anchor since 2002.

The Rack will slip into a space between World Market and Pier 1 Imports and be about the same size as one of those stores. It is expected to open next fall.

Merchandise in a Nordstrom Rack typically is about 50 percent to 60 percent less than Nordstrom's original prices. The company operates 69 Racks across the country.
