Recommending that Broughton stay an IB school

It looks like Broughton High School has a chance to keep its International Baccalaureate program even though it's still losing its status as a magnet school.

The school board's stuent achievement committee agreed Tuesday to recommend allowing Broughton to remain an IB themed non-magnet school. The full board could vote Tuesday.

The big caveat here is that the recommendation doesn't include a guarantee of funding once the magnet money runs out in 2013. The program could die then unless $180,000 a year is scrounged up to keep it running at Broughton.

We've got four new principals tonight, including one for Broughton High School.

Stephen Mares will be Broughton's new principal. He's been principal of Daniels Middle School since 2005.

The start date at Broughton and the end date at Daniels hasn't been set yet.
