Hansbrough, Curry named to AP team

Tyler Hansbrough can add repeat first-team AP All-America to his list of accomplishments. The North Carolina senior forward was named to the AP's All-America team on Monday, making him the third first-team repeat selection in UNC history, joining Phil Ford and Michael Jordan.

Hansbrough was joined on the first team by Davidson guard Stephen Curry, Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin, Pitt forward DaJuan Blair and Arizona State guard James Harden.

Davidson update: Curry X-rays negative

The X-rays taken of Davidson guard Stephen Curry's injured left ankle were negative, meaning that the All-American has a sprain and not something more serious, such as a torn ligament or a fracture.

Curry rolled the ankle when, during a drive to the basket in the second half of Saturday's victory at Furman, he stepped on the foot of Paladins forward Noah States. The injury initially looked more serious, as Curry lay just off the end of the court for about 5 minutes while the ankle was wrapped in ice.

Missed opportunity for Pack

On the road against a ranked team, and against the country's most dynamic player, N.C. State could have made a name for itself on Saturday.

Instead, Stephen Curry just increased his growing legend with 44 points in a 72-67 Wildcats' win over the Wolfpack.

N.C. State, which closed the 2007-08 season with a school-record nine straight losses, could have used the shot of confidence from beating No. 22 Davidson.

Pack can't overcome Curry, Wildcats

CHARLOTTE — N.C. State basketball coach Sidney Lowe had a straightforward plan for defending Davidson All-American Stephen Curry Saturday afternoon.

Keep a fresh defender on him at all times, which meant rotating four different players throughout the game, in hopes of wearing down Curry, who entered the game as the nation’s leading scorer.

It didn’t work as Curry tied his career high with 44 points as the 22nd-ranked Wildcats muscled past the Wolfpack 72-67 in Time Warner Cable Arena.

Curry's the best player in NC

When Tyler Hansbrough returns from the injured list, the 2008 national player of the year will be the best player in the ACC but not in his own state.

That distinction belongs to Davidson guard Stephen Curry. Just in case you thought the four-game NCAA Tournament clinic Curry put on last March was a fluke, he put up 44 points at Oklahoma on Tuesday in an 82-78 loss.

Curry's not only the best shooter in college basketball, he finds his shot when everyone in the building knows he's going to shoot. And it's not like he's Michael Jordan. He's not 6-6 and he can't shoot over most players outside of the Southern Conference.
