What to Watch on Wednesday: Season enders for 'Southland' and 'Suburgatory'

Locked Up Abroad (9pm, National Geographic Channel) - The seventh season opens with a profile of two American soldiers who were kept as POWs during the Vietnam War: Ernie Brace and John McCain. A new episode at 10 focuses on a reptile smuggler.

Suburgatory (8pm, ABC) - Season 2 ends with two new episodes. At 8, George breaks the news to Tessa that he has sold their house. At 8:30, Shelia pushes a chastity campaign in Chatswin, and Tessa moves out when George buys Dallas her dream home.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - In the Season 5 finale, John (Michael Cudlitz, right) deals with fallout from his kidnapping. Also, Lydia tracks John's kidnappers while becoming more intimate with an old friend and Sammy draws closer to robbers. Nothing is official, but it's looking like this could be the final season for "Southland" (several stars have signed up for new series). If it's really over, I'll miss it like crazy -- it's one of the absolute best shows on television -- but I'm also so grateful TNT picked it up after it was dumped by NBC.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn revisits a case involving a mysterious Swedish woman and imagines how he'd do things differently at the start of his investigation.

The Americans (10pm, FX) - Elizabeth requires Philip's help to complete a dangerous mission.

Off Pitch (10pm, VH1) - The highs and lows of a Wisconsin-based show choir called the Grand River Singers are charted in this new reality show.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Cooper kidnapped on 'Southland,' 'Hannibal' repeats

Nova: Australia's First Billion Years (9pm, UNC-TV) - In the first part of this four-part series, the history of Earth is told through the lens of Australia, which is almost as old as the planet itself. Hosted by scientist Richard Smith, the odyssey begins in Western Australia, where clues to when the Earth was born and how life first arose exist.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - Officers Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) and Lucero (Anthony Ruivivar), left, are kidnapped and held hostage, and all the cops are on the case in a desperate scramble to rescue them. Elsewhere, Ben deals with an increasingly erratic girlfriend.

The Americans (10pm, FX) - Stan purses a lead that brings him closer to Elizabeth. Due to a listing error, the final 7 minutes of last week's episode was cut off for DVR viewers. That episode will re-air in its entirety tonight at midnight.

CSI (10pm, CBS) - Russell searches for a way to connect with a 6-year-old girl who is the sole survivor and only witness of a triple homicide.

Deep South Paranormal (10pm, Syfy) - Yet another new series exploring paranormal activity, except these haunted spots are limited to the South.

Hannibal (10pm, NBC) - If you missed the series premiere of the best new show NBC has had in years (and in my opinion, the best new broadcast show of the season), you have another chance. It follows gifted criminal profiler as he teams up with cunning psychiatrist Hannibal Lector to solve a string of brutal murders, unaware of Lector's own murderous leanings. A new episode airs tomorrow night at 10.

What to Watch on Wednesday: New sitcom, new reality show mix young and old

The Middle (8pm, ABC) - The season finale of "The Bachelor" disheartens Frankie, so she sulks about it for several days.

Nature: What Plants Talk About (8pm, UNC-TV) - Ecologist J.C. Cahill leads this look at plants, which he contends are as busy and complex as humans. He explains how they "talk" to allies, eavesdrop on one another and call in mercenaries to protect them.

How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) (9:30pm, ABC) - This new sitcom will be lucky if from here on out I type "How to Live With Your Parents," because how obnoxious is that long title?? Anyway, this overly titled new sitcom has a young single mom (Sarah Chalke) moving back home to live with her eccentric parents (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett). I'm not a fan of the voice-over narration, but it has some funny bits.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - Gangsters emerge for the funeral of a high-level drug dealer, leading to chaos on the streets. Meanwhile, Lydia and Ruben unearth police corruption while probing a murder, and Ben has suspicions about Sammy.

Forever Young (10pm, TV Land) - A new reality series that makes housemates of five people over 70 and five twentysomethings, and chronicles what they can -- and can't -- learn from one another. Adrienne likes it. Here's her review of "Forever Young."

The Americans (10pm, FX) - A routine mission goes sideways for Philip and Elizabeth. Meanwhile, an FBI agent disappears.

Chicago Fire (10pm, NBC) - Despite Severide's support, Mills faces resentment from his colleagues about his desire to join Squad.

CSI (10pm, CBS) - A body is discovered near a forest reserve and the investigation leads the CSIs to uncover what may be a serial killer's secret.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Season finales for 'Whitney' and 'The Neighbors'

Whitney (8pm, NBC) - Two back-to-back episodes close out Season 2 tonight. In the first episode, Whitney asks Alex to be Lily's male pal. In the season finale, Whitney catches sight of her psychiatrist frantically eating a birthday cake by herself, and confronts her.

Meanwhile, back home, Dick Butkus gets an ominous call from his grandfather, played by George Takei, left. Will the Zabvronians have to go back home? (Please, no.) "The Middle," "Modern Family" and "Suburgatory" are all new tonight.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - John desperately tries to save Hicks while facing dark truths from his own past. Also, Sammy is haunted by a lie he told, Lydia and Ruben search for a John Doe, and Ben takes his relationship with Elena to the next level (which I can only assume means he breaks up with his girlfriend so that he's not two-timing both women).

What to Watch on Wednesday: Sammy vs. Tammi on 'Southland'

Arrow (8pm, CW) - The Huntress returns to Starling City and disrupts Oliver's life, while Laurel and her dad struggle with the reappearance of Dinah Lance.

The Neighbors (8:30pm, ABC) - Debbie starts a business making purses with help from Jackie, whose negotiating skills come in handy -- until they promise more products than they can deliver.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - Tonight, the cops confront their greatest fears. Lydia is shattered by the death of a baby; Sammy's (Shawn Hatosy, right) altercation with Tammi (Emily Bergl, right)is scrutinized; Cooper seeks comfort in Hicks; and Ben inches closer to Brooke, all while continuing a relationship with Elena.

What to Watch on Wednesday: A musical 'Neighbors' episode with an Oscar pedigree

The Neighbors (8:30pm, ABC) - The Bird-Kersees see a Broadway show in New York City, and Larry is so inspired he decides to create a musical of his own, but a 911 call after an emergency tests the limits of their contact with the outside world. The episode features original songs by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid").

The Americans (10pm, FX) - Philip reunites with an old flame, straining his already troubled relationship with Elizabeth.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - John mulls over the life he'll have once he leaves the LAPD, and Lydia bonds with a man she sent to death row in the past. Also, an annoyed Sammy becomes a tabloid celebrity in the wake of a heroic act, and Ben makes a questionable decision while tracking a drug dealer.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn and Gus team up with college students filming a documentary about Bigfoot in the woods.

Restaurant Stakeout (10pm, Food) - In the third season opener, the married owners of Hot Rods Real Pit BBQ in Wharton, N.J., ask Willie for advice on how to improve their business, which he learns is suffering because of negative attitudes and lack of training. I recently watched this show for the first time and it stressed me out so much.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Regina King rules in 'Southland'

College Basketball: Wake Forest at N.C. State (9pm, WRAL) - "Criminal Minds" and "CSI," which air on CBS tonight at 9 and 10 respectively, are both repeats. If you still want to see them, WRAL will typically show preempted programs at 1:37 a.m. and 2:37 a.m.

Suburgatory (9:30pm, ABC) - Dalia (Carly Chaikin) helps Mr. Wolfe (Red Lee) get over his breakup with Chef Alan by changing his appearance and, for good measure, plotting a little revenge to mend his broken heart.

Psych (10pm, USA) - The Season 7 premiere picks up after last season's big cliff-hanger episode, as Shawn (James Roday, right) seeks revenge for Henry's shooting. The big question: Did Henry survive the gunshot? "Psych" has already been renewed for an eighth season.

Southland (10pm, TNT) - I'm still not over last week's stunning episode. This week, the LAPD's dispatch system breaks down and Ben and Sammy's partnership is tested. Also, Lydia contacts her old beau and Ben finds romance on the job.
