USA Baseball's inaugural Women's Development Camp takes place this weekend at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

Details for that camp and camps in other sports, plus team tryouts, league registration, instruction and tournaments can be found in the Play! Recreational Sports Calendar below, an expanded version of the calendar that appears each Tuesday in the print edition Sports section. 

N.C. Challengers win PONY softball national championship

Lindsey Hilts' two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Jasmine Lamontagne on Sunday, and the North Carolina Challengers defeated Long Island (N.Y.) Bandits-Smith 5-4 to become national champions for the first time.

The 16U team from the Triangle-based girls fast-pitch softball organization won the 16-and-under PONY National Championship Tournament on Sunday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary.

The age 10-12 Bandits and the age 13-16 Rockies have won their Raleigh Parks and Recreation Girls Youth League City Championship titles.

After playing in 12 regular-season games, the champions competed in tournaments that involved teams representing each of the city's four athletic districts, said Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department intern Tyler Bolton-Fuhrman.
