Rosters set with Stastny and Subban added

So long as there aren't any more injuries — and tonight is the last night of league play before the break — the All-Star and rookie rosters are set for the NHL All-Star Game and Superskills competition this weekend in Raleigh.

Colorado center Paul Stastny, who has 17 goals and 25 assists this season, has been chosen to fill the final open All-Star roster spot.

Also, Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was added to fill the final spot among the 12 rookies that will participate in the SuperSkills competition alongside the All-Stars on Saturday.

Defense must be better

RALEIGH — Shutting down Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin is no easy task, but it will need to be done if the Hurricanes are to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Malkin’s top-shelf, no-look backhander capped his hat trick in Thursday’s 7-4 win at Mellon Arena.

Malkin has 4 goals, and 2 assists against the Hurricanes in two games this series. Crosby has one goal and two assists in that period. Two of Malkin’s goals broke the Hurricanes’ backs in the third period.

Penguins potent with Malkin and Crosby

Pittsburgh centers Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby have been racking up points.

Malkin leads the NHL in points with 11. He has nine assists and two goals in the Penguins’ first seven games.

Crosby is ranked ninth in NHL points. He only has a goal, but he also has nine assists.
