A California drug company is shutting down its Cary office and laying off 179 people in North Carolina.
Victory Pharma told state officials Thursday that the company is being bought by Japanese drug company Shionogi Inc., and laying off all employees by Sept. 8.
Fewer than two dozen of the employees are based in Cary. Most are in sales and territory management throughout the state.
Victory Pharma is a specialty pharmaceutical company that specializes in pain and anti-infective drugs, according to its web site. The company acquires prescription pharmaceutical products and markets those products in this country.
