"Abducted: The Carlina White Story" sells the wrong story short

Some crimes just scream Lifetime movie. I'm guessing that's what the network folks were thinking when they put "Abducted: The Carlina White Story" (8 tonight, Lifetime) in motion.

Woman finds out she was stolen from her family as a baby 23 years ago? Yes!  It's ripped from the headlines gold. And yet, "Abducted" is a mostly emotionless, by-the-numbers movie that only gets going toward the end of the film.

In 1987, 19-day-old Carlina White was snatched from Harlem Hospital in New York by a woman posing as a hospital worker. Her unmarried young mom and dad, Joy White and Carl Tyson, never stopped hoping she would be found.

DWTS: A KISS-off instead of a dance-off

Lenni G reports on last night's elimination show, which surprisingly, lacked the promised "dance-off":

KISS was back to help "Kiss somebody goodbye." So clever.  Not so clever: Melissa Gilbert's concussion which had her missing the show after her doctors ordered her to take a rest day. This does not sound good people. Maks admitted that he had hurt his arm but felt it took away from the pain in his ankles, knees and shoulders. This does not sound good either. By the way, huge props to Gavin who picked the injured Melissa up and carried her down the stairs to the medics.

We had our first encore dance of the season and it was Donald and Peta with their fantastic paso doble. Loved Tom Bergeron's comment that, "You just watched two people with a grand total of 3% body fat." True, absolutely true. On to the results...

DWTS: Rock 'n roll doesn't always work in the ballroom

"Dancing with the Stars" correspondent Lenni G fills us in on last night's dances:

It's Rock 'n Roll week so we must have an appearance from KISS. The outrageous makeup and outfits were cool when these guys were young. Now that they're all "geriatricly challenged," it's just plain weird. Actually, in my opinion, most of last night was strange. I'm just not sure that the rock music was totally complementary to the ballroom dancing.  But enough about me ...

Sherri and Val (right) started the evening with a tango. Len thought she did a great job overall. Bruno said she played it well and liked her "nasty." Carrie felt it was "good" but lacked "sparkle."   was a bit put off by Sherri's facial expressions which looked more like pain than passion. Judges' scores - 7's from all three for a total of 21.

DWTS: A tearjerker night with high-scoring dances

Our "Dancing with the Stars" correspondent Lenni G has some thoughts on last night's episode.

To quote Judge Len, last evening's performances were "awesome." Lowest score of the night - 24. Yes, people, I said 24! And we had the first tens of the season! The dancing was all about the stars most memorable year so you know knew from the start it was going to be a multiple tissue event.

First up, Jack and Anna with a samba celebrating Jack's daughter "finding" him in 2011. Len liked Jack's rhythm and felt it was the best dance from him so far. Bruno said he really "got the party started." Carrie Ann felt he "uplifted the room" but wanted to see more. I'm still not into Jack though it was a nice story. Judges' scores - 8's from all three for a total of 24.

DWTS: Some March Madness on the dance floor

Our "Dancing with the Stars" guest blogger Lenni G is back on duty this season, and she loved last night's premiere. Here's her recap:

Proving that "March Madness" can be more than the NCAA basketball tournament, last night's start to Season 14 was a total SLAM DUNK. Have to say this was the best first show EVER!  Not a single Star got less than 20 from the judges!!

Here are the details:

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough went first with a cha cha.  Len thought Maria "coped very well" but felt she needed "meaner hips." Bruno found her "delicious," but felt she needed to be a bit more "sultry."  Carrie Ann felt she did a great job but needed to work on her movement between the various parts of the dance.  Thank goodness her dancing is better than her laugh which is just awful.  Judges' scores - 7's from all three for a total of 21.

Jack Warner and Anna Trebunskaya followed with a fox trot.  Bruno said it was "well acted and danced."  Carrie Ann said it took her to "a happy place."  Len said it had the "feel good factor" but felt Jack's technique was poor.  Not sure Jack had all the personality I like from a star though his dancing was pretty OK.  Judges' scores - 8's from Carrie Ann and Bruno, 7 from Len for a total of 23.

Today's (double) giveaway could be your guilty pleasure

Television is a tough business, and so, history is strewn with failed series.

Some failed because they were bad; others because they were before their time.

Today, we offer two giveaway 2-packs that offer the shows' full first seasons AKA the complete series.

First up, "Sherri," the short-lived Lifetime sitcom based on the life of "The View" host Sherri Shepherd. The two-DVD set includes 13 episodes plus bonus webisodes featuring Ms. Shepherd's standup comedy.

We've paired that with "Huge," an acclaimed ABC Family show that starred Nikki Blonsky as a girl who attends fat camp and her relationships and adventures there.

The second package features "Off the Map," the ABC show from the preoducers of "Grey's Anatomy." You'll get more than 500 minutes of the show about young hot doctors in the South American jungle, plus bonus features like the cast discussing jungle medicine and cures.

That comes with the complete series of "Outsourced," the NBC sitcom about an American working at a call center in India. More than 7 hours of viewing with this one, plus a gag reel.

Want in? Just email here for the first package; and here for the second. We'll take entries until 7 tonight (12/20). We'll have a random drawing.

And we won't judge.

President Obama coasts and enjoys "The View"

There were some grumbling about whether President Obama should have appeared on "The View" today.

After watching, I can't say a bit of dignity was visibly lost. The ladies took the event quite seriously; besides bringing in Barbara Walters to give them news credibility, Sherri Shepherd wore her most dignified hair, a big old bun.

Were the questions tough? Nah. But the president didn't talk about whether he wore boxers or briefs. Indeed, I'm pretty sure he accomplished exactly what he wanted. And no, Joy didn't kiss him, and yes, Elisabeth did attempt to go hard.

Reminder: President Obama on "The View"

A reminder that President Barack Obama will be a guest tomorrow morning on "The View," which I think could be pretty interesting.

Unfortunately, Barbara Walters is returning early from her heart surgery recuperation to interview him (it would probably be a better interview if they'd just throw him on the couch and let the other ladies go after him). But we'll see. Hopefully Barbara will share.

"The View" airs at 11am on WTVD.

Return of the BAM!: "The Emeril Lagasse Show"

Emeril Lagasse reigned during the nascent days of The Food Network, but in 2007, after 11 years, the network cancelled "Emeril Live."

Now, he's back on ION with "The Emeril Lagasse Show," (8 tonight) with a show that has cooking but is more like a variety show, with taped segments, celebrity guests, and folks for Emeril to interview.

Each episode has a theme; the first show is a housewarming, welcoming Emeril back. And his big guest is Martha Stewart, whose company owns the show.

A different view of "Sherri"

I like Sherri Shepherd.

She's been on a couple of sitcoms where she was better than the material, and after a rocky beginning on "The View," she's now hit her stride.

Too bad I don't like "Sherri" as much. (It airs tonight at 7; then moves to Tuesdays at 10.)
