Four football players lead way for Fuquay signees

Fuquay-Varina will have five athletes signing scholarships this week, including four football players that will sign today. None is more heralded than defensive tackle Shawn Underwood, a two-time all-state player who will play for Butch Davis at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Seven area players make Shrine Bowl roster

Juston Burris, Shawn Underwood, Ethan Gardner, Dylan Intemann, Vad Lee, T.J. Thorpe and Sherman Ragland will represent the Triangle in the 2010 N.C.-S.C. Shrine Bowl game, to be played on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. on the campus of Wofford College.

UNC recruit, a 6-foot-2, 317-pound senior, will miss about 10 weeks.

Fuquay's Underwood sidelined

A slight tear in the knee of Shawn Underwood will keep Fuquay-Varina defensive tackle/offensive guard sidelined for the next two months.

Underwood, who committed to UNC two weeks ago, has made the all-conference team three times in the last two years.

A dream came true for Fuquay-Varina's Shawn Underwood. The defensive tackle, rated as one of North Carolina's top 30 players by Rivals.com, committed to UNC earlier today.

Underwood had narrowed his choices down to UNC, Penn State and Wake Forest after receiving dozens of offers.

"I'm pretty estatic about it," Underwood said.
