Duke football position changes and depth chart notes

DURHAM—Duke head coach David Cutcliffe met with the media for the first time since the regular season-ending loss to Miami. In the inital Belk Bowl press conference, he announced a few position changes for the game against Cincinnati:

*Nick Sink will move to tight end (from defensive tackle)

*Britton Grier will move to defensive end (from linebacker)

*Nick Hill will move to safety (from wide receiver)

*Shaquille Powell will work at safety as well (he was a running back)

Some of the changes, like Sink to tight end, are permanent. Others, like Powell at safety, could prove to be temporary.

“We have had, as you know, a bunch of injuries at the safety position, really in the secondary positions, and circumstances where areas in the secondary were really thin going into this game,” Cutcliffe said. “That gives us some options to look at.”

"Upgraded Swag" and Notes from Meet the Blue Devils day

Sunday marked the first day of camp without any on-the-field work for Duke. The term "off day" might not be completely appropriate though, as the team was planning on going to church and lunch together as well as getting in some classroom work. Below, though, is a recap from Saturday's Meet the Blue Devils day, which was attended by 1,500 fans—the biggest crowd in at least 25 years (no Duke officials cold vouch for further back than that).

DURHAM—“Upgraded Swag” is the term DE Kenny Anunike used to describe Duke’s new helmets at the annual Meet the Blue Devils day this weekend. But, really, that term could be applied to the way the Blue Devils feel about the program in its entirety.

DURHAM—When David Cutcliffe announced that Brandon Connette was no longer the backup quarterback, he didn’t specify a new position for the redshirt sophomore.

Turns out Connette can’t give a simple answer either.
