Miller out of the mix at N.C. State

Cross Sean Miller off N.C. State's wish list.

Miller has declined to be interviewed for the Wolfpack's coaching vacancy, his father said Friday, and will remain at the University of Arizona.

John Miller said he talked to N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow about his son's future but Sean Miller took himself out of contention for the Wolfpack job before Arizona's surprising 93-77 win over Duke on Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif. in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Krzyzewski praises Miller

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- After being the victim of a near-perfect second half by Arizona, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski offered some praise for Wildcats coach Sean Miller and the job he has done rebuilding the Arizona program in the post-Lute Olson era.

"Lute is one of the top coaches to ever coach in college and that brand never went away, even though there were some not-so-good things happening, and then Sean is just a heck of a coach," Krzyzewski said. "He's a really good guy, but he's a great coach and he had his team so well prepared. It was a great hire for them, to build back a brand that was right -- you know, it's there."

Sean Miller addresses the N.C. State job

As anyone would expect, Sean Miller disavowed any interest in the N.C. State job when asked directly about it. Even if he was desperately interested, the Arizona coach couldn’t possibly say anything else with his team getting ready to play Duke in the Sweet 16.

But Wolfpack fans hoping Miller will come to Raleigh can take solace in two little nuggets Miller dropped while discussing other subjects, including describing himself as the Arizona coach “right now.”

Former Wake assistant new Xavier coach

Xavier will turn to another former ACC assistant coach to run its basketball program. Chris Mack will replace Sean Miller as Xavier's basketball coach, according to the school.

Mack coached for three seasons with the late Skip Prosser at Wake Forest before joining Miller's staff in 2004. Miller, a former N.C. State assistant, left Xavier last week for Arizona.

Former ACC head coaches Prosser and Pete Gillen also preceded Mack at Xavier.
