Pack baseball drops opener to Seminoles

RALEIGH — The Wolfpack kept it close for a while despite not scoring an earned run.

But No. 7 Florida State still got a 9-4 win over N.C. State at Doak Field in Atlantic Coast Conference play Friday.

Seminoles pitcher Sean Gilmartin, who entered the game with the 10th best ERA in the league, went 7 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.

All four Wolfpack runs didn't count against Gilmartin, who projects as a high draft pick in the MLB First-Year Player Draft next month.

Gilmartin (9-1) collected the win as the Florida State lineup wasted no time accumulating runs.

Game 2: Miami baseball beats Florida St. 9-3

GREENSBORO — Miami took control early and kept adding the runs in a 9-3 win over Florida State at NewBridge Bank Park in the second game of the ACC baseball tournament Wednesday.

The No. 4-seeded Hurricanes (40-15) plated three runs in the second inning, and the Seminoles (38-17) responded with two in the top of the third inning to cut Miami's lead to 3-2.

But that was as close as No. 5 seed Florida State would get.

"It's a huge win," Miami coach Jim Morris, who grew up in the Triad, said. "They've been our biggest rival."
