Scotty McCreery on 'Leno' tonight

Reigning American Idol Scotty McCreery will perform tonight on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

You know what that means: my "I'm not watching Jay Leno" streak must come to an end (I'll have a recap here on the blog after the show ends).

The other guests on tonight's show are "Gossip Girl" actress Blake Lively and country singer Blake Shelton. Shelton is also a judge on NBC's "The Voice," a reality singing competition in the same vein as "Idol." Hopefully, Scotty will get some couch time and can chat with Shelton about the merits of these type shows.

I just hope Jay asks him something other than if he and Lauren are dating. I'm so sick of that, and I'm sure Scotty is, too.

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" airs on NBC at 11:35 p.m.

NOTE!!!!! Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals airs tonight on NBC, so "Leno" may run late. If you're recording, set your device to catch "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" after Leno -- just in case. You don't want to have to deal with any heartbroken 11-year-olds tomorrow morning...

Scotty McCreery's Grand Ole Opry performance will stream live online

Thanks for all your anonymous phone calls and comments. Your pleas have been answered -- more Scotty McCreery news!

First up, Scotty and his shadow ('American Idol' runner-up Lauren Alaina) will tread on holy country ground Friday night, when they perform on the Grand Ole Opry stage. WSM Radio will live-stream the "Friday Night Opry" show on their website (click "Listen Live Now" in the top right corner). The show begins at 7 p.m. and will also feature Roy Clark, Randy Travis, Billy Ray Cyrus, Bradley Gaskin, Charley Pride, and Mel Tillis.

-Also, N&O preps reporter Tim Stevens mentioned earlier this week that Scotty will also be playing ball in Nashville this weekend. On Saturday, June 11, he is scheduled to play in the 21st Annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge in Nashville. The game starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, but I have no information about any way to view it online. Scotty is in Nashville for the big CMA Music Festival weekend.

-And in case you missed it, the Garner-Clayton Record had a story on Wednesday about Scotty attending an American Legion baseball game while he was home this past weekend on a break. Scotty got a team hat and jersey and sat in the press box for part of the game.

-Finally, check out this awesome new map the town of Garner has published of their town, complete with Scotty points of interest highlighted. Cute, but I'm sure I'm not the first person to point out that there's no tag on Bojangles!

Scotty on the Nashville awards circuit

Just two weeks after he won the "American Idol" title, Scotty McCreery took the stage of the live CMT Music Awards tonight. The awards, from Nashville, Tenn., honor the year's top videos on Country Music Television.

Joined by his "Idol" runner-up and friend Lauren Alaina, Scotty talked about the tornadoes that devasted parts of his native North Carolina this spring, as well as parts of Lauren's home state, Georgia, and Missouri and Alabama. The two then introduced the band Sugarland, which sang a special version of its song "Stand Up."

The song can be purchased on iTunes, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross to support tornado victims.

Scotty talks about 'snubbing' Jack Black, dance numbers, Hollywood Week

Did Scotty McCreery really mean to snub comedian Jack Black on the night of the "American Idol" finale? What did Scotty really think about those group song-and-dance numbers the finalists had to do? And was Hollywood Week really as dramatic as it looked on TV?

Here are some more tidbits from our recent interview with Scotty. For our story on how he is balancing his new fame and being a teen, go here.

Scotty will get his cuts

Scotty McCreery missed his junior baseball season while he was off winning "American Idol" but he'll get to display some of his skills swinging a bat on Saturday, June 11 when he is scheduled to play in the Country Music Awards Music Festival's Celebrity Softball Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.

Scotty's new "Summertime" single leaked online

Not sure how this happens (we learned about it from Entertainment Weekly), but Scotty McCreery's newest single, "Out of Summertime," has leaked on the internet.

The new song about summer love obviously has a great seasonal peg, which means presumably it will be released sometime this summer. "Out of Summertime" is more uptempo than Scotty's first single, "I Love You This Big," which is also a love song.

There are lots of mentions of heat and summer, but maybe also a nod to the State Fair? "What we felt on that ferris wheel, was just too right and just too real, but just not long enough. Oh she could have been mine, but we ran out of summertime..."

Too bad he couldn't work in something about stifling humidity and funnel cakes.

UPDATE: The online version of the leaked single is no longer available.

Scotty McCreery to present at CMT Music Awards

Scotty McCreery will be a presenter at next week's 2011 CMT Music Awards, an awards show produced by the Country Music Television cable channel.

We predict a possible teen heartthrob overload, as Justin Bieber (who has a recorded a song with country band Rascal Flatts) will also present.

Sadly, Scotty and the Biebs are not at this time scheduled to perform.

Other presenters include "American Idol" runner-up Lauren Alaina, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, and Kristen Chenoweth. Kid Rock will serve as host.

The 2011 CMT Music Awards airs live on Wednesday, June 8, at 8 pm on CMT. You can also watch on CMT.com.

Scotty McCreery has good first week on the music charts

Scotty McCreery's first full week as a published recording artist has been a pretty good one.

The "American Idol" winner released his "I Love You This Big" single last week and it debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single was also the third most popular digitally downloaded song, with 171,000 downloads in the first week.
