It's worth getting to know "Rizzoli & Isles"

There's something to be said for knowing what your customers want and delivering, and while watching "Rizzoli & Isles" (10 tonight), I was struck by how thoroughly TNT the show is.

Besides having two strong, accomplished women at the center of it, the show has that same mix of grit and humor as "The Closer" and "Leverage" and "Saving Grace." And although the network stakes its claim with drama, characters are welcome on TNT too.

That's the other thing that struck me after viewing this very likable, fairly creepy first episode of "Rizzoli & Isles" -- it's a first episode that firmly lets us know who these characters are through the plot rather than through exposition like a lot of first episodes do. There's no starting out slow here; it comes out the gate with a crime that hits close to the characters.

What to Watch on Monday: Series finale of "Saving Grace"

The Bachelorette (8pm, ABC) - The gang travels to Iceland. This has got to be the night Kasey reveals his "hearts-and-shields" tattoo and then packs his bags for home.

Saving Grace (9pm, TNT) - There are two new, back-to-back episodes tonight, and the second one is the series finale. At 9, Grace (Holly Hunter) shuts herself off completely from friends and family as a tragic event continues to haunt her.  In the final episode, Grace undergoes a spiritual metamorphosis and travels back to Oklahoma City, where she is determined to vanquish evil.

The Good Guys (9pm, Fox) - Dan and Jack investigate dog poisonings in the suburbs, and find themselves in the middle of a whole meth lab vigilante vendetta mess.

Cake Boss (9:30pm, Food) - The gang makes a cake for O, Oprah Winfrey's magazine.

Last American Cowboy (10pm, Animal Planet) - The end of calving season is marked by diseases, money troubles, and a shortage of hay.

What to Watch on Monday: Bret Michaels' new reality show

The Bachelorette (8pm, ABC) - Seventeen men move into the bachelor mansion and begin courting Ali. Two men get one-on-one dates, including a private Jamie Callum performance in Las Vegas.

Thank You, Eddie Hart (9pm, UNC-TV) - The true story of a young Dutch woman who adopted the grave of North Carolina soldier PFC Eddie Hart near her hometown in Holland, and promised to visit it several times a year. She and her brother paid tribute to Hart -- a soldier they never knew -- for 57 years. Hart, from the 83rd Infantry Division, was killed in Germany in the waning days of World War II. Read more about Eddie Hart and the film here

Big Bang Theory (9:30pm, CBS) - It's a rerun but one of the show's funniest. Sheldon uses behavior modification methods to "train" Penny and alter some of her annoying habits. Think "dog treats."

Saving Grace (10pm, TNT) - With the celestial Earl in her corner, Grace must answer to a higher authority and deal with the judgment of her past behavior.

Cake Boss (9pm, TLC) - In the one-hour third season premiere, Buddy makes a cake for the New Jersey governor's inauguration gala.

Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It (10pm, VH1) - This is a preview of Bret Michaels' new reality show, slated to debut later this fall. This one should be a little different than his hit "Rock of Love" reality series, in which Bret tried out various skanky young women hoping to find a Mrs. Bret Michaels. He never did find her. This new reality show focuses on Bret's home life with his kids and the challenges of balancing being a rocker with being a dad. "Life" has temporarily halted production, but will resume as soon as Bret's health stabilizes.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Better Off Ted finishes season with twofer

Hell's Kitchen (8pm, Fox) - The twelve remaining "cooks" have to plan meals for a returning Marine in this very special episode of "Hell's Kitchen." The losing team has to clean the kitchen and decorate the dining room with Gordon Ramsay's wife, Tana. And later, when the "cooks" serve up some cold food, Ramsay freaking loses it. Again.

Better Off Ted (9pm, ABC) - The final two episodes of the season are here, back to back. And in one of their rare brilliant moves, ABC has renewed this show for the fall. In the first episode, Ted gives Linda a fake "green" project but there's a problem when other staffers want in on it. In the second episode, Linda plays matchmaker for Ted, and Veronica's secret life is exposed by a strange Veridian invention. Yes, please.

Dragon's Den (9pm, BBC American) - This is the British version of ABC's "Shark Tank."

NYC Prep (9pm, Bravo) - Finale. Thank you, and please do not come back.

Saving Grace (10pm, TNT) - The team explores the death of a parole officer, and lots of old secrets are brought to life. Clea Duvall guest stars.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Shirley Jones gets clean

Major League Baseball All-Star Game (8pm, Fox) - The All-Star game is back in St. Louis for the first time since 1966. Derek Jeter (left) was the top vote-getter in AL balloting.

Better Off Ted (9pm, ABC) - Linda is the scapegoat when Veridian is sued over a perfume that causes hornets to attack women.

Primetime: Family Secrets (10pm, ABC) - Tonight's focus is Michael Jackson's family. Primetime reports on how they are coping, and interviews Joe Jackson and Michael's siblings.

Saving Grace (10pm, TNT) - Grace's spiritual beliefs are tested when the team investigates the death of a Hasidic Jew found near a herd of deceased cows.

The Cleaner (10pm, A&E) - William is asked to help a drug addicted star, but discovers the star's parents also need help. Shirley Jones guest stars (wouldn't it be cool if the troubled younger star was played by Danny Bonaduce or David Cassidy?).

What to Watch on Tuesday: NJ Housewives get violent in finale

Wedding Day (8pm, TNT) - A new documentary series from Mark Burnett (right, producer of "Survivor") featuring wedding stories of couples with "poignant backstories" (that means they are going to try to make you cry a lot). The first show features a couple who decides to go ahead with their wedding even though a near-fatal car crash put the bride-to-be in a six-day coma.

A Decade Behind Bars: Return to the Farm (9pm, NGC) - National Geographic Channel's follow-up to the 1998 Oscar-nominated documentary, "The Farm: Life Inside Angola Prison."

Saving Grace (10pm, TNT) - Season three opens as Grace's investigation into an anti-government group goes awry and injures a young woman she's trying to help.

Real Housewives of New Jersey (10pm, Bravo) - The first season finale has everything you could hope for in a reality show about spoiled New Jersey housewives with shady pasts and colorful family histories: cursing, threats, table throwing, and physical violence. Teresa (at left, being restrained by her hubby Joe) may be the one who throws the table and goes after Danielle, but Carolina Manzo is the one who sends shivers up my spine.

"HawthoRNe": A weak entry to the TNT strong woman tribe

The first problem with TNT's "HawthoRNe" (tonight at 9) is that it's spelled that way, with the big RN for registered nurse and someone thought that was clever.

In guess you didn't get it, the show is about nurses, and Jada
Pinkett Smith (who, by the way, studied for a time at the NC School of the Arts) plays Christina Hawthorne, the chief nursing officer at a hospital in Richmond, Va.

She's recently widowed, left with a daughter. Luckily the nursing staff she supervises is like family.

Michael Vartan, the cutie from "Alias" plays an oncologist and chief of surgery.
