In Today's paper: Magnolia Grill family tree, Epicurean, Sara Moulton

In today's paper, in case you missed it, I wrote a story about chefs Ben and Karen Barker and all the chefs who have gone through their kitchen at Magnolia Grill. If you want to see a pdf of the family tree with everyone's photo, scroll down on the right and look for Related Content.

The Carrboro Farmers' Market is now accepting food stamps, as well as debit and credit cards. Read more HERE

Suzanne Havala Hobbs' On The Table column is about strawberries.

I wrote a story about former Food Network chef Sara Moulton's new cookbook and her upcoming book signings in the Triangle.

Greg Cox's Epicurean column  is about new Italian places all over the Triangle: Il Forno Italian Grill in Holly Springs, Bellini Fine Italian Cuisine in Fuquay-Varina, Piola at North Hills mall in Raleigh and Enzo's Pizza Co. in Durham.

Frugal Feasts: Sara Moulton's Baked Chicken Wings

I've been reading a copy of Sara Moulton's new cookbook, "Sara Moulton's Everyday Family Dinners." Moulton used to be on the Food Network and was executive chef at Gourmet magazine for 23 years before it closed last fall.

For today's Frugal Feasts recipe, I decided to use a recipe from a chapter in Moulton's new book called "Five Ingredient Mains." It doesn't use anything that's on sale this week but the main ingredient, chicken wings, cost either $1.97 and $2.29 at Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods respectively. With so few ingredients, this recipe for Baked Chicken Wings with Creamy BBQ Dipping Sauce has to be frugal. It costs $1.65 per serving.

By the way, Moulton has two upcoming events in the Triangle:

  • 7:30 p.m. May 4 at Quail Ridge bookstore, 3522 Wade Ave in Raleigh,
  • Noon, May 5 at A Southern Season, Hwy 15-501 @ Estes Drive in Chapel Hill. A cooking class is already sold out there.
