Wake Forest-Rolesville 42, Sanderson 13

WAKE FOREST – Wake Forest-Rolesville safety Darren Kirby has had better nights statistically -- just two assisted tackles and no passes defended -- but there aren't many games he's enjoyed more than the Cougars' 42-13 win over Sanderson Friday night.

Kirby tore his ACL five weeks ago in a 29-26 win over Northern Durham and, at the time, thought his high school career was over. But after a month of physical therapy, Kirby returned against the Spartans on Friday.

Millbrook 23, Sanderson 14

RALEIGH – In a game marred with penalties and poor play, one play worked to perfection.

With the Millbrook Wildcats leading 20-14 against the Sanderson Spartans, Millbrook faced a 4th-and-6 on the Sanderson 31 yard line. It was an obvious decision for Wildcats coach Clarence Inscore to go to running back Keith Marshall on the big play.

“There was no doubt. I had confidence in our offense that we could pick it up,” said Inscore.

With 4:30 left in the game, Marshall got the handoff and ran to the outside. He picked up 14 yards, and the Wildcats ran three minutes off the clock before Jonathan Bowman kicked a 21 yard field goal to ice the game.

Wakefield 35, Sanderson 9

Most coaches would be very pleased with a 35-9 win.  Wakefield Wolverines head coach J.D. Dinwiddie wasn’t too happy with his team’s win over the Sanderson Spartans.

“I wanted some more points,” said Dinwiddie.  “I’m not going to run up the score, but I wanted to get at least 42 points.”

Cary 31, Sanderson 0

Through two games this season Cary had outscored its opponents by a combined 87-32. Friday night was more of the same.

The Imps scored a defensive touchdown and got two more on special teams to pummel Sanderson on the road 31-0 and remain unbeaten.
