If you've been in Durham more than two years, you might remember Richard Mullinax and Perry Pike, a couple from Old North Durham with a passion for historic preservation, crime prevention and community.
They've since moved to Berkeley, Calif., where they made news Tuesday after receiving a marriage license, part of a rush this week as legal challenges to same-sex marriages failed. This photo of the couple was taken by Alison Yin of The Oakland Tribune, and accompanies that story.
Pike, now 45, and Mullinax, now 40, lived in Durham seven years, and have been together 10.
