Fashion show on Friday at A Shopping Spree

Saks Fifth Avenue has teamed up with the Junior League of Raleigh for a fashion show Friday night at A Shopping Spree.

Spree, which is back for its 25th year, will host Silver Belles from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh. The fashion show starts at 6:30 p.m.

The look on the runway will be fall fashion and the models will be some of the Junior League's past presents and past chairs of the Spree. Tickets cost $35 and include two drink tickets.

Spree got started in 1985 as a way for the Junior League to raise money for charities in the community. All proceeds from Spree will benefit local youth projects sponsored by the Junior League.

If you can't make it to the fashion show, there's plenty to see and do through the weekend. This year, expect to see more than 130 exhibitor booths, including almost 60 that are new to Spree. (And at least one that is old ... Cherchies, which sells gourmet foods, has been at Spree all 25 years!) Shop for jewelry, clothing, shoes, handbags, teacher's gifts, Christmas ornaments, children's clothes and books, local art and more.

Tickets for Spree cost $10 and are good for the entire four days of Spree, starting today. Tickets are available at the door.

Doctors on the runway

Some of WakeMed's finest will be hitting the runway Thursday for a good cause.

WakeMed has teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for a fashion show as part of the Saks Key to the Cure events this week. And WakeMed doctors are among those who will be hitting the catwalk. Here's to look for: Dr. Karen Coates, Dr. Lisa Roberts and her husband Paul Garcia, who also happens to be N.C. State's band director, Dr. Michele Casey, Dr. Michael Ferguson, Dr. Mark Benevides, Dr. Susan Kennedy, Dr. Carroll Overton, Dr. Tony Tackman, Dr. Lori Tackman, Dr. Monica Jones and her husband John Jones.

Also, Kellie Harper, N.C. State's women's basketball coach, and her husband John Harper will be models in the show.

Tickets cost $30 and include a wine tasting and hor d'oevres. The event is from 6-9 p.m. Buy tickets at keytothecure.wakemed.org.

October sparkles at Saks

Saks has a busy month ahead with three trunk shows of different jewelers.

The first has already gotten started. It's the Kenneth Jay Lane trunk show running now through Oct. 14. Lane is known for his fun costume jewelry styles (see the bee to the left) that won't break the bank.

Sapphires, emeralds, aquamarines and rubies for everyday wear will be part of the David Harris trunk show Oct. 16. And then on Oct. 17, look for latest styles in 18k gold by Italian jewelry designer Ippolita.

Sexy, sporty for spring from Nicole Miller

Nicole Miller's spring collection, presented at NY Fashion Week, was a whole lot of sexy sportswear, with plenty of skin-tight pants, shorts, skirts and dresses. This one particular dress, however, broke from the pack, along with a few other side-draped pieces. Love the simple cut and color.

Miller, who's coming to Saks Fifth Avenue in Raleigh in November, told Style.com that the collection this season was about how she wanted to dress.

Nicole Miller coming to Raleigh

Got word on Friday that Nicole Miller will be coming to the Saks Fifth Avenue at Triangle Town Center Nov. 5. She'll be doing one-on-one wardrobe consulting for Saks shoppers with her new fall/holiday collection. (Not sure yet of the exact details on who gets to meet with her. Call the store if you want to find out more. 919-792-9100. Or stay tuned here. I'm hoping to interview her in October.)

This is a pretty big score for Saks. I'm a fan of Nicole Miller cocktail dresses. Not only are they stylish, typically they are fairly forgiving, especially if you splurged a little too much before a big event ... ahem, meaning they often have some kind of ruching or other design detail to help disguise issues you might have with your figure.
