SYTYCD: The beasts and the boys do their best

Guest blogger Lenni G. recaps last night's action:

The evening started with a group number featuring eight of the sixteen dancers, all without their "natural" partners.  The choreography from Tyce Diorio was all about the girls "kicking the boys booties."  Um, interesting concept, and probably inspired by Nigel's earlier comments that the girls are the "Beasts" of this season.  OK, fine.

On to natural couples and couple dances -

First up, Sasha and Alexander did a contemporary routine from Dee Caspary that featured a piano.  Nigel called it a good start, telling Sasha she is the "princess of dance."  He was not as kind to Alexander, telling him that he needs to work on connecting with the audience, though his dancing was terrific.  Mary loved the choreography, which was really unique. Guest judge, Kristin Chenoweth, loved both dancers.  Lil C, sitting in as the fourth judge, said it was the "representation of how mellifluous the piano keys are."  Alrighty then.  I loved the very last part where Sasha took up residence inside the piano, with only her hands showing on the keyboard.

So You Think You Can Dance: A finale to save on the DVR!

Our favorite guest blogger Lenni G wraps up the season:

Now people, this was a FINALE!!!!

It had a huge opening featuring the top contestants and All Stars.  Even injured Alex Wong was back, albeit in a chair.

It had seven judges - Nigel, Mia, Adam, Tyce Diorio, Stacey Tookey, Kenny Ortega AND, fresh off the Hot Tamale Train, Mary Murphy.

So You Think You Can Dance: The end is near and it's going to be close

In what can only be described as a "Marathon for Prickly Heat," each of the three finalists did 4 couples dances AND a solo!  Amazing, just amazing.

Kent and All-Star Lauren started the night with a Bollywood number from Nakul.  As Nigel said, it had "fun choreography, great costumes and great dancing." Have to agree with Adam that Kent is definitely the "feel-good dancer" of the season.

Next up, Lauren and All-Star tWitch with another fabulous hip-hop routine from "NappyTabs."  LHM, Lauren was really, really good, totally nailing this performance.  And, as Mia said, "NappyTabs" has had the greatest season ever for hip hop choreography - "Home run after home run after home run."

So You Think You Can Dance: The people take over from here

Lenni G gives the results:

Great opening number featuring All Star Allison and the guys doing Mia Michaels choreography.  I'm not always on the same page as Mia as far as judging is concerned, but the woman can really plan a dance.

Entertainment portion featured a sneak preview from the new movie, "Step Up 3D," as well as another group number from the movie's dancers.  There was also an appearance by Christian TV which got a fast forward from me after the first few bars.  Had no problem watching the whole Allison Iraheta ("American Idol" girl currently touring with Adam Lambert) and Orianthi set which totally rocked.

So You Think You Can Dance: One dancer goes M.I.A.

Guest blogger Lenni G. on last night's show:

The three regular judges - Mia, Adam and Nigel - were joined by ballroom guru, Toni Redpath for the Top 6 Show.

Going first were Kent and All Star Anya with a cha cha routine from Jean-Marc and France.  Adam felt that Kent has gone from being a boy to a "man dancing." I agree.  Toni said he certainly had improved on this first cha cha and was more grounded.  I agree.  Mia felt the whole piece was "crunchy" which means, to her anyway, that the dancing "did not flow." I don't agree.

So You Think You Can Dance: Making things up as they go along

Guest blogger Lenni G wraps up the week's results:

A veritable cornucopia of entertainment last night featured the American Theater Ballet, Enrique Iglesias and Pit Bull, Lauren and Neil from season three in an encore of Wade Robson's brilliant routine, "Dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight," and the totally unbelievable DJ Smart, an eliminated contestant from Las Vegas who danced with shackles on his wrists!

Yes, shackles, people.  Gadzooks is all I can say about this guy - his look and dance were "fan - freaking - tastic."

So You Think You Can Dance: Adding insult to injury

The recap from last night's elimination show from our guest blogger, Lennie G.

No point in creating any suspense about who went home last night. Y'all know it was Ashley, who won't be able to dance for at least three weeks due to injured ribs. And, unlike Alex who also suffered a season-ending injury, Ashley was not asked to try out again next year. That sorta adds insult to injury, doesn't it?

So You Think You Can Dance: Cougar moments and mother love

Guest blogger Lenni G tells all:

MEDIC!

Another dancer down. This time it's Ashley and her ribs are hurting.  She can't dance tonight so, per the rules, she goes to the bottom three for Thursday's results show.

What a bummer.  But the show did go on and, overall, it was pretty dern good.

Up first, Lauren and All-Star Mark did the first ever Tahitian routine from choreographer, Tiana Liufau.  This was totally "booty-licious." As Nigel said, he had no idea how to critique from a technical point of view, but it sure was entertaining.  Loved Mia's comment that she looked like a "duck in heat" and agree with Adam that she was amazing.  I have to give huge props to Lauren who highly complimented both Tiana and her assistants for all their help.  Lauren is soooo cooool!

So You Think You Can Dance: Tough love gone wrong

From Lenni G:

In what can only be described as one of the most poignant moments in SYTYCD history, Alex Wong was forced to leave the competition due to a lacerated Achilles tendon.

Though the tendon can and will be reattached surgically next Tuesday, he will not be able to dance for at least three months.

Can't wait 'til next year when he will no doubt make it to the finals and once again dazzle us with his incredible talent.  As Adam said, he truly proves that "the best can be better."

One other thought about last night's show.  Mia commented on her totally unwarranted criticism of AdeChike the night before.

So You Think You Can Dance: The girls rebound big

Guest blogger Lenni G. offers her thoughts:

What, no Alex Wong?  As Elmer Fudd would say, that's just not "wight." And, if it's a ruptured Achilles tendon, he's probably out for the season.  What a shame for him and for us who love to watch him.

The still healthy guys and girls did two dances last night, one with an All Star and one with a fellow contestant.  Have to say it's going to be really, really difficult for the judges to decide who goes tonight.

Lauren started out the night with Pasha from season three doing a Jean Marc and France cha cha.  LHM, this was sooo good.  Mia's comments were the best - "Pure murderation.  Mama, you were so hot." Adam said it was "sharp and specific" and that it had "smoke and smolder."I say Lauren has become a grown up right in front of our eyes.
