SAS Championship looking for volunteers

SAS Championship tournament officials are looking for volunteers for the Champions Tour stop at Prestonwood Country Club Sept. 22-28.

The SAS Championship is in need of more than 600 volunteers to donate their time and energy to ensure a successful event. Volunteering can be a great way to have fun, meet people and watch the legends of golf take on Prestonwood. There are a number of different committees that have unique responsibilities, including Golf Channel support, standard bearers, hole marshals and laser operators. Training will be provided for committees requiring specific knowledge.

The volunteer fee is $50 and includes an Antigua golf shirt and headwear, Volunteer Badge valid for week-long tournament access, two Weekly Grounds Badges for guests of the volunteer’s choice, two invitations to the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party and meals and beverages during assigned shifts. All volunteers that work three or more shifts will receive a free golf voucher for one round at Prestonwood Country Club.

Ticket, sponsor and volunteer information are available at saschampionship.com or (919)-531-4653.

Wiebe to defend SAS title

Reigning SAS Championship champion Mark Wiebe will return to Prestonwood Country Club this fall gunning for a repeat, tournament officials announced today.

Wiebe got into the 2007 field on a sponsor's exemption after turning 50 years old just 10 days before his win. He became the 12th player to win his Champions Tour debut when he captured the 2007 title, which was his first victory in 21 years. He carded a tournament scoring record 18-under par (65-66-67) to win by three strokes.

Wiebe is currently 10th on the Champions Tour Money List. He picked up his second Champions Tour win at the Cap Cana Championship in the Dominican Republic in April, and he has four top-10 finishes this year and 13 top-25 finishes in 17 starts.

The eighth annual SAS Championship will be held September 26–28. Tickets are available at saschampionship.com or by calling 919-531-4653.
