Another NC queen makes it on "RuPaul's Drag Race"

Grab your wigs, up your attitude and prepare to tuck: Season Three of "RuPaul's Drag Race" begins tonight (Logo, 9 p.m) and just to make things even more yummy, one of the 12 queens competing is a Tar Heel.

Her name is Stacy Layne Matthews from the gloriously named Back Swamp. Seriously. It's a township near Lumberton.

Stacy says she watched the first two seasons of the show and knew she had to be on. Unlike Raleigh's plus-size diva Victoria 'Porkchop' Parker who appeared on the first season of "Drag Race," Stacy is one of three full-figured queens.

Stacy wants you to know that being bigger doesn't put her at a disadvantage. "People underestimate me, but I'm just as fierce and can do anything they can do and as well.

"A lot of people expect plus-size girls to just walk around. I can dance, I can do splits, if I want to."

I remember after I gave birth to my child, I was talking to a friend about how exhausted I was, how I had so little time.

Her advice: Whatever you do, don't stop wearing lipstick. I got her point; don't stop taking care of yourself.

But we women do that all the time, don't we? And in lieu of a good girlfriend, who better to set us back on track than a bunch of drag queens?

That's the premise of "RuPaul's Drag U" (Logo, 9 tonight), a cheeky (of course) little show that takes all the double-entendres, humor and fabulousness of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and brings it to the people.

What to Watch on Monday: Giving "Good Guys" another chance

Bachelorette (8pm, ABC) - It's Fantasy Suite night in Tahiti, and also the night Frank has his big emotional breakdown. Can't wait to see if he flakes out on Ali before or after the sleep over.

Lucky (9pm, HBO) - The latest in HBO's summer documentary series is a look at the seductive power of the lottery. Nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.

Good Guys (9pm, Fox) - Jack and Dan believe rumors of a bank robbery are just an attempt to distract from a much larger heist. If this show got on your nerves too much when it first debuted (specifically, the technophobic Bradley Whitford character), give it another shot. Over the last couple of episodes, Det. Dan Stark has been toned down a bit -- just enough to still be funny while not making you want to kill him. (Now watch them go and have him karate-chopping another computer tonight, just to prove me wrong).

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - Mary McDonnell returns as internal affairs officer Capt. Raydor, to help Brenda investigate a vanished nanny who has connections to the Los Angeles mayor. Raydor may have ulterior motives for shadowing Brenda.

The Client List (9pm, Lifetime) - A new lifetime movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as a mother who turns to prostitution to support her family. We have a review.

Do Something Awards (9pm, VH1) - An awards show honoring social activism by young people, hosted by Jane Lynch.

RuPaul's Drag U (9pm, Logo) - The first episode in a new series in which drag queen RuPaul offers makeover advice to women. Our review.

Rizzoli & Isles (10pm, TNT) - Boston is on edge when an alleged copycat of the Boston Strangler emerges. Also, Jane (Angie Harmon) clashes with her new boss, played by Donnie Wahlberg

Start your engines, girl. "RuPaul's Drag Race" returns tonight.

It's perhaps the guiltiest of guilty pleasures, and it's back for a second season tonight.

Adrienne wrote about season one of "RuPaul's Drag Race" last year, which actually featured a contestant from Raleigh. Season two debuts tonight at 9pm, and its new companion show, "Untucked," follows at 10pm. (And if you're snowed in at home today, there's a season one marathon on right now that started at noon!)

Tonight's premiere will feature a "Gone with the Wind" photo shoot, and then the ladies have to make a Scarlet O'Hara dress out of curtains. Kathy Griffin is the guest judge.

The Drag Queens Are Back!

Well, RuPaul crowned a new drag queen on "RuPaul's Drag Race" last night. (Click and you can see the winner.)

Sadly it wasn't Raleigh's own Victoria "Porkchop" Parker; you'll remember she was the first voted off.

If you haven't been watching, I don't know why -- it's a campy, fun adventure!

Happily, there's a reunion show and it's good too. Ru's a pretty good interviewer.

Here's a clip from the reunion show (there are bleeps for language but it still isn't necessarily work-friendly -- but it's funny) with Porkchop talking about the Drag Race experience:

A Local Diva Joins "RuPaul's Drag Race"

YOU. BETTER. WORK.

RuPaul, the tall, blonde, and fabulous drag queen, is back on the pop culture radar, this time hosting “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” a quest to find the next international drag queen star.

It premieres tonight at 10 on cable channel Logo, MTV's channel aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender audience. You can also watch at the same time on www.rupaulsdragrace.com

And wouldn’t you know it, one of the 9 female impersonators
competing for the title is from Raleigh. Victoria “Porkchop” Parker goes against 8 younger (she’s 39), thinner (she’s plus sized) divas for a chance at a magazine cover, an ad for l.a. eyeworks, a headlining spot on Absolut Vodka’s pride tour and $20,000. Parker is no newbie; he has been performing for 22 years around the Southeast.
