'Dancing with the Stars': A recap and some final thoughts

Here's a final word on this season of "Dancing with the Stars" from our correspondent, Lenni G, who is overjoyed with J.R.'s big win:

A thoroughly jampacked episode last night with Lady Antebellum for entertainment, performances from the nine stars who had been eliminated in previous weeks, and more dancing from the three finalists.

During the first hour of the show, Ricki and Derek, Rob and Cheryl, and J.R. and Karina each chose a dance they had done before and did it again.  Ricki chose her fantastic "Psycho" tango because it was just so fantastic we had to see it one more time.  Rob chose his dreamy "Fly Me to the Moon" foxtrot which he had dedicated to his father.  J.R. decided to show Len that the jive Len had called a lindy hop was really a jive.  Coming in first were Ricki and Derek with 30 points.  Second place went to J.R. and Karina with 28 points, leaving third place to Rob and Cheryl with 26.

At the end of the first hour, Ricki and Derek became the first finalists to be eliminated.  As I said yesterday, Ricki just didn't finish this competition very well, though the rest of her season was truly excellent.

DWTS: Final night of dancing reveals tight race for trophy

Our hardworking "Dancing with the Stars" correspondent, Lenni G, sends us her recap all the way from Arizona. That's dedication.

Two dances per couple tonight, one of which was a freestyle routine.  After watching the whole show, I have to think that just one dance would have been plenty.  I don't know if it was nerves or injuries but, with the possible exception of Rob's freestyle, the performances were pretty dern average for a finale night.

First up, Ricki and Derek with a cha cha and coaching from Carrie Ann.  The good news - Len thought the timing was right, Bruno said she'd never looked "hotter," and Carrie Ann loved the way she "lived the dance."  The bad news - all three judges commented that there were a number of moments when the dance went wrong.  Have to say the judges were right - the whole thing seemed a bit out of sync from the beginning.  Judges' scores - 9's from all three for a total of 27.

DWTS: No Hope for next week's finale

"Dancing with the Stars" correspondent with her take on last night's elimination:

A really good results night showcasing ...

Rob and Cheryl doing an encore of their fabulous samba from the night before.

Cobra Starship, featuring Sabi, with their big hit, "You Make Me Feel".  LaLaLaLaLa.  LaLaLaLaLa!

Derek and Anna with the Design A Dance routine - an unbelievable paso doble that I've now watched at least three times.

On to the results ...

DWTS: Three dances each from four remaining couples

A recap of Monday's night's "Dancing with the Stars" from our correspondent Lenni G. Tune in for tonight's elimination show at 9 p.m. on ABC:

It's semi-finals night and, of course, we must have THREE DANCES from each couple!  The first round featured a paso doble or a samba.  The second round was all about the Argentine tango, complete with lifts!  The final round was a "Cha Cha Relay" with all four dancing one after the other to the same continuing music.

DWTS: Judges signal Nancy Grace's time at the ball may be up

"Dancing with the Stars" correspondent Lenni G with last night's recap:

We have another two-dance night with all the couples doing a fully choreographed dance first and an "instant" jive second.  So what's the instant in instant jive? Well, the couples know it's a jive but they don't know what the music will be until about 20 minutes before they have to perform it. I love this concept!

Rob and Cheryl started the night with their quick step. Len thought the beginning didn't work but once they went into hold, he felt the whole thing came together. Bruno thought Rob was "speedier than a drag race car." Carrie Ann commented on Rob's polish and elegance, and how much he's improved. I'm with Tom Bergeron who said Rob's good dancing was "the best thing this week for any Kardashian." Judges' scores - 9's from all three for a total of 27.

Rob and Cheryl's instant jive had no glaring mistakes according to Len. Bruno loved the great pace. Carrie Ann thought Rob was in control on the dance floor. I liked it! Judges' scores - 8's from all three for a total of 24 and a grand total of 51 for the night.

DWTS: Big night for Ricki and Rob

Our "Dancing with the Stars" correspondent Lenni G tells us about happenings from last night's show.

It's Halloween night so, of course, all of the routines will have - wait for it - Halloween themes!  Shocking, absolutely shocking! There will be two scores - one for the couples dance and one for a team dance.  Here's how it went -

First up, David and Kym with a cha cha danced to "Abracadabra."  Len thought there were lots of "tricks and treats."  Bruno added that David seemed to be a "natural at turning tricks."  Oh my.  Carrie Ann praised David for his "phenomenal improvement."  I thought this dance was perfect for "Hyper David."  Judges' scores - 8's from all three for a total of 24 plus 23 for the Team dance for a grand total of 47.

Disappointment of the Night - J.R. and Karina's tango with "Ghost Busters" for the music.  Bruno thought it was a solid performance but also felt that J.R. lost his timing.  Carrie Ann noticed a "tiny slip" but still said it was well done.  Len found it "substandard" to what he expects from J.R.  I agree with Len.  Judges' scores - 9 from Carrie Ann, 8's from Len and Bruno for a total of 25 plus 23 for the Team dance for a grand total of 48.
