Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner didn't play well in the season opener against Baylor.

Skinner threw three interceptions in a 24-21 loss, but coach Jim Grobe said there's plenty of blame to go around. 

Other than Norm Snead in the 1960s and '70s, Wake Forest quarterbacks have had very little success in the NFL.

Karl Sweetan bounced around with a few teams in the late '60s and Mike Elkins stayed on the Kansas City roster for a couple of seasons in 1989 and '90, but the school’s all-time passing leaders basically have never been deemed strong professional prospects.

By the time Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner was a senior at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla., football recruiting fans already knew all about an in-state junior named Tim Tebow.

It was Skinner’s team, though, that nipped Tebow’s for the conference championship in 2004.

WINSTON-SALEM — It was the kind of game Wake Forest had won many times before and the kind Duke had seen and won just a week ago.

Experience and an old Duke bugaboo won out on Saturday.

Duke got snakebit by another last-second missed field goal at the end of regulation as Wake Forest pulled out a 33-30 overtime victory over the Blue Devils in a seesaw battle at BB&T Field.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Riley Skinner tossed three touchdown passes, two to Chip Brinkman, and No. 23 Wake Forest played up to its first preseason ranking in school history with a 41-13 win over Baylor on Thursday night.

Skinner, whose 72 percent completion percentage led the nation last season, was coolly efficient against the Bears, going 27 of 36 for 220 yards, adding a 43-yard TD strike to Ben Wooster in third quarter. He also earned his 19th career victory, a school record for a quarterback.
