What to Watch on Sunday: Tar Heel football alum in 'Survivor' finale

Survivor: Nicaragua (8pm, CBS) - The final castaways participate in their last immunity challenge and are questioned by the jury before jurors vote for the $1 million winner. The winner is announced in the 10pm "Reunion" show, where castaways also discuss their experiences. Only one of the original North Carolina natives who began the journey has made it to the finale.

Leverage (9pm, TNT) - In part one of the two-party Season 3 finale, Nate and his team hunt down longtime nemesis Damien Moreau before he kills a high skilled engineer and sells her work to global terrorists. In the 10pm conclusion, the crew tails Moreau to San Lorenzo and attempt to bring him to justice. Goran Visnjic and Elisabetta Canalis guest star.

Ricky Gervais: Out of England 2 - The Stand-Up Special (10:30pm, HBO) - If you missed it last night, the Ricky Gervais show taped at the Chicago Theatre. Gervais talks about Noah's ark, the recession, famine in Africa, gay marriage and acts of God.

What to Watch on Saturday: Holiday classics and Jeff Bridges on SNL

The Wizard of Oz (7pm, TNT) - The classic story of a Kansas girl's adventures in a magical fantasy world starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and Bert Lahr. Repeats at 9:15pm.

Miracle on 34th Street (8pm, AMC) - Edmund Gwenn (left) won an Oscar for his portrayal of the ultimate department store Santa who goes on trial to prove he's the real Kriss Kringle. A  true classic also starring Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood (left). It doesn't feel like Christmas until you've seen this at least once. Repeats at 10:15pm.

Battle of the Bulbs (8pm, Hallmark) - A new Hallmark movie about neighbors Bob (Daniel Stern) and Stu (Matt Frewer) who launch a Christmas-decorating battle, and it's not long before the competition turns ugly.

WWE Tribute to the Troops (9pm, NBC) - Top wrestlers and divas perform in Fort Hood, Texas, in the WWE's annual tribute to the US Armed forces. Sherri Shepherd and Miss USA will also appear.

Ricky Gervais: Out of England 2 - The Stand-Up Special (10:30pm, HBO) - Ricky Gervais performs at the Chicago Theatre and talks about Noah's ark, the recession, famine in Africa, gay marriage and acts of God.

Pit Bulls and Parolees (10pm, Animal Planet) - Tia's daughters go to New Orleans, where a pit bull that had been tied to a post for days is rescued. Tia also saves an injured pit bull from the side of the road, and parolee Cameron makes a big decision.

Downsized (10pm, WeTV) - Todd learns of a job opportunity that could both hurt and help his family in the first-season finale.

Saturday Night Live (11:30pm, NBC) - Jeff Bridges is the host and Eminem and Lil Wayne are the musical guests.

From the Why Department: Zach Galifianakis shaves his head.

There's a video circulating in which Ricky Gervais crashes a British morning show interview featuring Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. promoting their new movie, "Due Date." The video is funny and everything, but all I could think while watching it was, "Why the blerg did Zach Galifanakis shave his head?!" Is it for a part? I will never get used to that. Apparently, Galifianakis shaved it just before his Jimmy Fallon appearance earlier this week, but the Gervais incident was my first time seeing it.

Louie C.K.'s new FX sitcom is perfectly vulgar

I love Louis C.K.'s stand-up, and few people are funnier talk-show guests. But I admit I was no fan of his first attempt at a television show, HBO's "Lucky Louie." I tried to like it, but the vulgarity-to-comedy ratio skewed way too far into the humorless vulgarity spectrum for me (with "humorless" being the more offensive of those crimes).

There's still plenty of vulgar humor in his new show, "Louie," debuting with back-to-back new episodes tonight on FX, but it's so perfectly balanced and so funny, that even the really squirmy parts go down easy.

What to Watch on Friday: Spike Lee traces his family tree

Who Do You Think You Are (8pm, NBC) - In the season finale (NBC renewed the show for next season), Spike Lee traces his roots to Georgia and Texas, and makes a surprising discovery about his great-great-grandfather.

Ghost Whisperer (8pm, CBS) - A ghost tells Melinda that a nanny is evil, but you can't just take a ghost's word for something like that, so Melinda investigates for herself.

The Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - Topics tonight include physical altercations, human anatomy, school curricula, and whistling and happiness.

20/20 (10pm, ABC) - A report on mothers with drinking problems features author Mary Karr, who wrote about her alcoholism in "Lit: A Memoir."

Laughing at fools: An early look at HBO's "Ricky Gervais Show"

If you happen to love Ricky Gervais, you'll no doubt eat up his latest project, "The Ricky Gervais Show," a new animated series premiering tonight on HBO. The show is built around a string of popular podcasts featuring Gervais, his longtime collaborator Stephen Merchant, and their dim friend Karl Pilkington.

In the show-slash-podcasts, the three men sit around and have random, pointless debates about topics such as the necessity of modern inventions and monkeys in space. That may sound boring, but Pilkington is so genuinely and earnestly ridiculous, and Gervais and Merchant are so brilliant at making fun of his absurdity, that the show is quite funny from start to finish.

What to Watch on Friday: Olympic Skeleton and new HBO premieres

Winter Olympics (NBC) - Figure skating, alpine skiing, ski jumping, and skeleton (left), which I have never seen. That will change tonight. Full schedule.

Bang For Your Buck (9:30pm, HGTV) -  Designer Vern Yip evaluates three kitchen remodels in Raleigh.

Ricky Gervais Show (9pm, HBO) - The series opener of a podcast-turned-animated series featuring Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington, who discuss a variety of topics.

The Life and Times of Tim (9:30pm, HBO) -  In the season 2 premiere of another HBO animated series, Tim's post-breakup beard interferes with his job. Guest voices tonight include Will Forte and Tony Hale.

Real Time with Bill Maher (10pm, HBO) - Fresh off his big HBO special (filmed in Raleigh), Maher opens season 8 of his political affairs enntertainment show with guests Wanda Sykes, Eliot Spitzer, Seth McFarland, Norah O'Donnell, and Elizabeth Warren.

20/20 (10pm, ABC) - Actor/comedian Jeff Garlin ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") talks about his new book, "My Footprint: Saving the Planet One Pound at a Time."

The Office recap: Ricky Gervais was right

This photo of Phyllis (left) from The Office's Dec. 10 Christmas episode is as timely as anything else the "Happiness ..." brain trust could attach to this recap of Thursday night's episode.

That's because, after a six-week hiatus, the show's writers came back with ... a clip show. Six weeks off, and The Office returns with a contrived shell of a story about an investment banker auditing the Scranton branch, giving Toby and other cast members opportunities to flash back to highlights from real episodes.

Anyone who watched Sunday's Golden Globes award ceremony heard host Ricky Gervais declare that the American version of his show has "jumped the shark". He was probably joking. Probably.

At least The Office picked a couple of my favorite episodes to cannibalize for clips.

What to Watch on Sunday: Golden Globes, "Human Target," the return of "24"

Golden Globe Awards (8pm, NBC) - Host Ricky Gervais (left) joked with Conan O'Brien earlier this week that since the awards show is on NBC, maybe it'll get canceled before air time. Unlikely. But if Gervais is half as biting tonight in his NBC commentary as he was on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" Wednesday, NBC will probably not ask him to host again. I'm positive he will be irreverant and hilarious.

Human Target (8pm, Fox) - Mark Valley (right) stars in this new adaptation of a DC Comics adventure. Valley ("Boston Legal") is Christopher Chance, a bodyguard who rents himself out as a literal human target. The show is funny and dramatic, which suits Valley well. Another reason to give it a shot is the presence of Chi McBride ("Pushing Daisies"), who stars as Valley's boss, Winston.

Big Love (9pm, HBO) - Even though Nikki is likely to become the next Prophet at Juniper Creek, Bill considers running for Utah state senate.

24 (9pm, Fox) - Dammit, Chloe! We're running out of time! That's right, Jack is back. It's hour 1 of Day 8, and the action begins in New York City. In addition to the obvious return of Kiefer Sutherland, Cherry Jones is back as President Taylor. The season will also feature newcomers Freddie Prinze Jr and Katee Sackhoff.

Brothers & Sisters (10pm, ABC) - Cheryl Hines guest stars as Buffy, Kitty's friend who comes in between her and Robert in a political development. You read that right: Buffy and Kitty.
