What to Watch on Sunday: Clay Aiken on 'Celebrity Apprentice'

Amazing Race (8pm, CBS) - The 20th season begins with eleven teams who gather in Santa Barbara, California and receive instructions to fly to Santa Barbara, Argentina.

Celebrity Apprentice (9pm, NBC) - The latest season starts tonight with none other than Raleigh's own Clay Aiken competing. Other celebrities include Arsenio Hall, Lou Ferrigno, Dee Snider, Cheryl Tiegs, Debbie Gibson, Lisa Lampenelli, Penn Jillette, Adam Carolla, Michael Andretti, and George Takei. The first task of the season has teams running a midtown sandwich shop for a day. We'll post recaps of the major action from each episode here at Happiness is a Warm TV for at least as long as Clay sticks around.

Downton Abbey (9pm, UNC-TV) - Season 2 concludes with the family gathering at Downton for Christmas and Bates on trial for the murder of Vera. Also, Matthew comes to terms with his guilt over Lavinia's death, Thomas connives to move up the ranks, and Edith reunites with a former suitor.

A Bernie Mac Tribute: 'I Ain't Scared of You' (10pm, Comedy Central) - A salute to the late Bernie Mac features footage from early performances and rembrances from family, friends and colleagues. Here's Adrienne's review.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - Rick, Glenn and Hershel find themselves trapped and facing a battle for survival against an army of foes, both dead and alive. Shane attempts to rescue Lori, but I think we can all agree it'd be best if he just left her on the road with the zombies.

Eastbound & Down (10pm, HBO) - In the Season 3 premiere, Kenny (Danny McBride) finds himself in Myrtle Beach as the closer for a minor league team, but he also has a reunion with April (Katy Mixon) for his son's first birthday in his North Carolina hometown. Read more about the third and final season of "Eastbound & Down."

Life's Too Short (10:30pm, HBO) - The premiere of a mockumentary following the life and career of actor and little person Warwick Davis, who plays a fictionalized version of himself. Created and written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who also appear in some of the episodes.

Tonight: A live recap of 2012 Golden Globe Awards show

The Golden Globes Awards show airs tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Ricky Gervais (left) is hosting for the second year in a row -- and really playing up the "Oh, aren't I naughty?" angle after many felt he went too far last year teasing the Hollywood elite.

He's sure to offend again, though this time the shtick will be more self-conscious and perhaps less funny because we're all expecting it. But then again, I pretty much always think Gervais is funny, so I'm betting I'll be amused.

Oh, yeah -- awards! They are also giving out some awards! Almost forgot about that part. Raleigh's Evan Rachel Wood is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or TV movie for her role in HBO's "Mildred Pierce," so there's that.

Whatever you tune in for, I'll be back here tonight at 8 doing a live recap on the blog. Follow along and comment or if you're unable to watch the show tonight, check back later to find out what you missed.

Recap begins below.

What to Watch on Sunday: McCreery on CMA show, Gervais on 'Curb'

CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock (8pm, ABC) - Scotty McCreery is slated to perform! Oh, and also: Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Lauren Alaina, Reba, and many others.

In the Flow with Affion Crockett (9pm, Fox) - A new sketch comedy series created by actor-comedian Affion Crockett, who is from Fayetteville. Tonight's first episode comes out swinging with a spoof of Tiger Woods trying to get his game back together after his extramarital scandal, and a skit about auditions for new judges on "American Idol."

True Blood (9pm, HBO) - Sookie and Eric side with the king when Bill and Marnie prepare for an epic confrontation.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (10pm, HBO) - Larry's heroic side comes out and Jeff pursues a professional relationship with Ricky Gervais.

The Great Food Truck Race (10pm, Food) - In the second season premiere, eight gourmet food trucks begin their cross-country competition for a $100,000 prize. Things start in Malibu, California, and move on to Las Vegas.

Breaking Bad (10pm, AMC) - Jesse's disappearance leaves Walt fearing the worst. Also, Skyler has a surprising reunion and Hank gives Det. Roberts bad news.

Against the Wall (10pm, Lifetime) - An ex-con accuses some police officers of harassment. Meanwhile, Abby is propositioned by the detective investigating Richie's shooting of a teen, and Sheila visits the mother of the boy Richie shot in an attempt to cope with her own grief.

Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals (10pm, OWN) - In the Season 1 finale, Ryan and Tatum find themselves at an impasse as the publication date for Tatum's second memoir looms.

"Talking Funny" delivers laughs and some comic learning

Comedians make it look so easy, but as revealed on "Talking Funny" (HBO, 9 tonight) there's a sweet science to doing stand-up, and the best comedians have mastered it.

Learning that is one of the pleasures of listening to Ricky Gervais (the executive producer of the show), Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock.  In the nearly hour-long conversation, the four talk about their craft, revealing the workings of successfully telling a joke, what makes them laugh, and laying out the different approaches each takes in everything from encores to language.

Gervais. Seinfeld. Rock. C.K.: Looking forward to 'Talking Funny'

We can't wait for this. A new HBO special in which four of our greatest living comedians -- Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K. -- sit down to talk about being funny and what makes something funny (or not funny).

'Talking Funny' doesn't air until April 22, and we'll have more about it here before the premiere, but we hate for you to wait that long to get a taste.

What to Watch on Thursday: "Parks & Recreation" returns on NBC

Community (8pm, NBC) - Shirley (left) has big news for the group now that her ex-husband (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) is back in her life. "The Office," "30 Rock," and "Outsourced" are also all new tonight.

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Auditions continue. Check back on Friday for our take on the new judges.

Perfect Couples (8:30pm, NBC) - This is officially the premiere of this new NBC sitcom, but they already aired an episode several weeks ago, right? It's about three sets of couples struggling with their relationships.

Royal Pains (9pm, USA) - The show returns with Hank and Evan learning more about Eddie after his heart attack.

Piers Morgan Tonight (9pm, CNN) - Ricky Gervais is the guest.

Parks and Recreation (9:30pm, NBC) - We're so happy to welcome this show back for Season 3! Tonight, Leslie (Amy Poehler) enlists Ann's help in persuading auditors (Rob Lowe and Adam Scott) to give the Parks Department more money. Elsewhere, Ron and Andy start coaching youth basketball and April has some surprising news.

Fairly Legal (10pm, USA) - A new show that fits nicely in the USA family. This one is about a lawyer-turned-mediator who tries to save her recently deceased father's firm while dealing with her own personal problems. It's enjoyable and the lead (Sarah Shahi) is likable.

The morning after the Globes: Hollywood got its feelings hurt

What a difference a day makes. Last night as I was recapping the Golden Globes and following comments by TV critics and entertainment writers on Twitter, it was clear that I wasn't the only one who thought host Ricky Gervais was funny. There were guffaws over the jabs at Cher, Charlie Sheen, Hugh Hefner, and praise for Gervais for not being afraid to go for the jugular a little.

This morning, in the middle of a Golden Globe hangover of sorts, the world is a little more cranky. My Twitter feed (which also includes some Hollywood types -- actors, directors, screenwriters) is about 50/50 between "Gervais is a lazy jerk" and "Gervais is brilliant!" Even the media seems to be more critical of the British comic. One of the first headlines I saw this morning was this one, from the Washington Post: "'Glee' and 'Boardwalk' soar while Gervais crashes at Golden Globes."

"Crashes?" Really? The writer described his performance as a "meltdown."

Live-blogging the 2011 Golden Globes

I'll be live-blogging the Golden Globe action tonight, beginning around 8pm. Just keep checking this link for updates.

Host Ricky Gervais has promised that after tonight, the Globes will not invite him back. How can you resist that?

If you're in to the designer clothes and Red Carpet stuff (best Red Carpet show is on E!), you might as well know I'm wearing flannel pj pants from the Gap and a Northface sweatshirt. I picked it out myself. No stylist here. I'm also taking a lot of cold medicine so if I type something inappropriate, that's my defense.

Gervais promises memorable Golden Globes. We'll live-blog.

The Golden Globes Awards Show airs tonight (8pm, NBC), and even though some of the nominations are pretty wack, Ricky Gervais as host should be reason enough to tune in.

Gervais, hosting for the second time, promises after tonight, the Globes will not invite him back.

Gervais told the Associated Press of his first hosting stint, "I don't think I went far enough. Obviously not, because they invited me back. So I'm going to do it again, do a proper job. And I guarantee they will not invite me back. . . . I honestly can't wait to do it. I'm going out there guns blazing like it's the end of the world."

Sounds like presenter Justin Bieber is right to feel "petrified" about the evening.

I'll be live blogging here tonight and will try hard to catch all of Gervais's barbs. Oh yeah, and the big TV winners.

Free online: Season 2's premiere episode of HBO's 'Ricky Gervais Show'

Starting today, you can watch the entire first episode of Season 2 of HBO's "Ricky Gervais Show," a full week before its January 14 premiere date.

You can watch at iTunes, at HBO.com, or you click below to watch right here!

The show, which originated from a popular podcast, features the voices of Ricky Gervais, his longtime collaborator Stephen Merchant and colleague and friend Karl Pilkington, whose offbeat musings and pointless conversations are the basis of many of the storylines. Topics covered in season two include 21st-century scientific innovations, bizarre medical stories, Ricky’s pet project to "Get Karl Famous" and Karl’s fascination with doppelgangers and twins. Also included are the regular features "Monkey News," in which Karl describes the role banana-trained monkeys played in early space exploration, and readings from Karl’s diary.
