The hits keep on comin' for the Avett Brothers. After making their Grand Ole Opry debut, Concord's favorite sons have hooked up with wise-man/guru producer Rick Rubin to produce their next album -- which will be coming out on Rubin's American/Columbia Records, according to the band's MySpace announcement. Rubin, of course, is the auteur behind late-career comebacks by Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond, among others. And given that the Avetts' last independently released album made the lower rungs of the Billboard charts, now seems like the perfect time to take the jump to a major label.
That should be out next year. Meantime, there's a new Avetts mini-album titled "The Second Gleam" (Ramseur Records) coming just in time for their July 26 show at Cary's Booth Amphitheatre. Avetts manager Dolph Ramseur reports that ticket sales are at 4,200 for the 7,000-capacity venue, so it's going to be a healthy crowd.
ADDENDUM (7/14/08): The Avetts conquer Delaware.
