What to Watch on Friday: Ugly Betty returns tonight

Ugly Betty (8pm, ABC) - In tonight's season 4 premiere, Betty (America Ferrera, right) is no longer the dowdy assistant, but now the associate features editor and sporting a much "sleeker" look. She's also clashing with her ex-boyfriend Matt, who is now her boss. Lynn Redgrave and Kristen Johnston guest star in tonight's 2-hour show.

Law & Order (8pm, NBC) - Unless you've been living in a cave in Pakistan, you should definitely recognize the "ripped from the headlines" elements of tonight's show. There's a murder surrounding a family with 10 kids involved in a reality show, plus an emotionally unstable copycat "mother of eight" who would do anything to take the spotlight from them. Watch for a couple of uncharacteristically funny moments between Connie and Mike, when Connie gets suckered into a role on the reality show, and a deliciously crazy kicker at the very end. Jim Gaffigan guest stars.

Monk (9pm, USA) - Natalie plans a surprise birthday party for Mr. Monk while he investigates the strange death of a maintenance man. Virginia Madsen guest stars.

Psych (10pm, USA) - This fall finale could end up being a "very special episode of 'Psych.'" Shawn (James Roday, left) stumbles into the middle of robbery and ends up being shot and taken hostage by a psychopath.

Rescue Ink Unleashed (10pm, NGC) - Some of the guys travel to Philly to look for a dog murderer who hanged a pit bull in a school yard, while the other guys go to Kentucky to rescue a dog from a fighting ring.

What to Watch on Friday: Awwwhooo! Werewolves of Santa Barbara...

Monk (9pm, USA) - Monk loses his health insurance and has to resort to group therapy with Dr. Bell. He thinks there's a murderer in the group targeting fellow patients, which would be great because then he could totally write-off the doctor bill.

Psych (10pm, USA) - More terrific casting on "Psych" -- David Naughton (left) stars as a doctor who believes he's a werewolf and a threat to the public. He hires Shawn and Gus to help him. Awwwhoooo...Werewolves of Santa Barbara...

Rescue Ink Unleashed (10pm, NGC) - This show about a group of tough bikers who rescue abused and neglected animals in New York City is one of my new favorites. These guys have no legal authority to remove abused animals or "persuade" owners to behave. But trust me, people do what they tell them to do. Tonight they investigate a man whose neighbor reports he has been trapping, torturing, and killing animals. This will be one of those episodes where I'm yelling at my TV, "Turn the cameras off and beat him!"

What to Watch on Friday: National Parks documentary wraps up

The National Parks: America's Best Idea (8pm, UNC-TV) - The finale of the Ken Burns doc series on America's national parks wraps up with the 1946-1980 era. After WWII, park attendance increases dramatically, leading to a billion-dollar campaign to improve park facilities. Also, President Jimmy Carter sets aside 56 million acres of land in Alaska for preservation.

Medium (9pm, CBS) - Allison thinks a slain revenge-seeking stripper is inhabiting her daughter Ariel's body. That puts a whole new urgency to 'keeping them off the pole.'

Dollhouse (9pm, Fox) - Echo has an intense reaction to Topher's imprint of a new mother.

Rescue Ink Unleashed (10pm, National Geographic Channel) - A great new show about a bunch of inked-out bikers who go around rescuing cats and dogs. This is a real organization, not just a bunch of fools banding together to get on TV. But it is great TV.

A TV show about inked-up bikers saving dogs and cats? Yes, please!

"Rescue Ink Unleashed" is the kind of show that has you at meow. A group of inked-up, bad-ass bikers who go around saving abused and neglected dogs and cats? Heck yeah. I'm watching that.

The first episode of show, which aired on National Geographic Channel last Friday, was a pretty good sampling of the types of cases the crew takes on.

They deftly handle three starving pit bulls who had been shut up for two days in their owner's apartment, after the owner was beaten and hospitalized and unable to get home. (The pit bulls had to be sweet animals because they were also in the apartment with three cats and didn't eat them).

Possibly even more scary than the pit bulls was the old lady in Queens who suggested the Rescue crew simply kill the wild chickens messing up her yard instead of trying to catch them with nets. She isn't too impressed with their track record (they average one chicken capture per visit) and wants swifter justice. The captured chickens are relocated to no-kill farms.
