Kelly wins shooting contest

Ravenscroft's Ryan Kelly won the 3-point shooting contest at the Powerade Jam Fest at the McDonald's All-American Game on Monday night.

The 6-foot-10 Duke recruit is known for having good range and he was impressive in winning the event at the BankUnited Center in Miami, Fla..

The McDonald's All-America Game is scheduled for Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

Guard ties Ravenscroft record

Ravenscroft junior Luke Davis tied the school record with seven three-pointers in a 94-43 victory over Durham Academy on Friday night.

Davis, who was a junior last year at Broughton,  had 21 points and seven assists, and tied the mark set by Marc Campbell during the 2003-04 season against Eastern Alamance.
 
Ravenscroft is now 21-5 overall and 3-0 in the TISAC league. The
Ravens host Word of God on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. The gates open
at 3:30 p.m.

Get there early

Ravenscroft is expecting a capacity crowd for its game at home next Wednesday against Raleigh Word of God. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. If you want to see Word of God's John Wall, the top-ranked basketball recruit in the country, you'd better get there early.

Ravenscroft won the first game between the two private schools. The Ravens are led by Duke recruit Ryan Kelly, who is the Ravens' all-time leading scorer.

The date of the game was incorrect in Wednesday's News & Observer.

Glaxo drew some big names

N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher attended during the four days of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Basketball Tournament at Broughton’s Holliday Gymnasium, which wrapped up Tuesday night.

Krzyzewski, who made his first and only appearance Tuesday night, brought an entourage with him, and signed autographs in between the Ravenscroft-Centennial final and the Word of God-Christ final.

Wolfpack recruit leads Centenniel to GSK title

N.C. State guard recruit Lorenzo Brown scored 27 points to lead Centenniel to the championship of the GlaxoSmithKline Invitational Summitt Hospitality bracket with a 72-53 win over Ravenscroft.

Duke recruit Ryan Kelly had 26 points in the loss.

Ravens crushed by Asheville Christ School in Columbia, S.C.

Ravenscorft, the No. 1-ranked boys basketball team in the area, lost to Asheville Christ School Asheville Christ School 76-45 on Saturday in the Chick--Fil-A tournament in Columbia, S.C.

Christ School was led by Duke recruit Mason Plumlee’s 22 points. Lakeem Jackson added 12.


Ryan Kelly, Ravenscroft’s Duke recruit, had 15 points.


Both Christ School and the Ravens also will play in the GSK Invitational, but they are in different eight-team brackets.
