King named Rudy national finalist

Middle Creek senior Rashawn King, who returned to sports this year as the leukemia he was diagnosed with last summer is in remission, has been named one of 12 national finalist for PARADE Magazine's Rudy Award.

The Rudy Award is given to the young athletes who inspire and motivate teammates, classmates and the community.

King cleared to play sports

The last time Rashawn King was on the field for a competitive high school football game, he was wearing a doctor's surgical mask, because his immune system was still weak from chemotherapy treatments for his leukemia.

The next time it happens, he'll be in pads and a helmet.

Benefit breakfast this Saturday for MC's King

A benefit breakfast for Rashawn King (pictured right in black), a rising junior at Middle Creek High School who was recently diagnosed with leukemia, will be held Saturday, July 17 from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. at Applebee's (1480 North Main Street) in Fuquay.

Tickets are $7 each. "Pray for Ray" bracelets will be sold for $3 and they will be taking up any additional donations

King played both football and basketball at Middle Creek this past athletic year.

J. Mike Blake hands out his SWakeSports Coach of the Year, Stat-sheet Filler of the Year, Sixth Man/Woman of the Year, Best Dunker/Leaper, Best Warm-Up Song, and Freshman of the Year awards.
