Cherry Bomb Grill not closing, despite Facebook post

The moral of this story: don't believe everything you read on Facebook.

Late last night, a post on the Cherry Bomb Grill's Facebook page announced the restaurant's pending closure. It said in part, "So, after a brave effort in this awful economy, we gave it our best shot. But, regretfully, Cherry Bomb Grill Raleigh will be closing at the end of the month."

As official as that seems, general manager and executive chef Scott Schabot says it's not true.

His explanation: a former manager who happens to have the administrator privileges for the Facebook page made the post. And Schabot has been up since 7 a.m. today trying to set the record straight. Compounding the problem: the fact that he does not have the access to make changes to the page or delete the post.

The disappearing regional dialect: Raleigh

A story in The News & Observer's Sunday edition might be interesting to language buffs and fans of regional accents. Robin Dodsworth, an associate linguistics professor at N.C. State University, says that the Raleigh accent is gradually disappearing.

She's also looking for natives of Raleigh to participate in her study. If you grew up in Raleigh -- as far south as Garner or as far north as Wake Forest -- and want to contribute your voice to Dodsworth's data, e-mail her at robin_dodsworth@ncsu.edu.

Marbles IMAX in Raleigh to close for renovation

The IMAX movie theater inside the Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh will close for a three-week renovation next week.

Marbles Director of Marketing Katy Hipp Burgwyn said the theater's final show will take place on Jan. 9. The projected reopening date is Feb.1.

The theater, which was originally built in 2001, will receive new seats, new carpeting, a new projection system and a new screen, she said. The theater's capacity will also increase slightly, from 268 to 272. The upgrades will allow the Marbles theater to show more films, as certain IMAX movies are filmed on a format that the current equipment is not capable of showing.

Hipp Burgwyn declined to say how much the renovation will cost but said the timing of the move made sense.

"Last year with 'Avatar,' it was just a knockout year," she said.
