Citing "unforeseen construction delays," the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department says Glen Eden Drive will remain closed through Oct. 19 for work on a greenway project.
The road was closed just inside the Interstate 440 Beltline on Aug. 1, and an electronic message board at the site told drivers it would reopen in 40 days. It's for the installation of a pedestrian tunnel under Glen Eden, between House Creek and I-440, that will link two sections of the House Creek Greenway. Detours are posted.
Vic Lebsock, the city's greenway planner, said it has taken longer than expected to relocate all the utility lines and pipes affected by the work.
When completed, the House Creek Greenway will run 2.9 miles from the eastern end of the Glen Eden bridge over I-440 to the Crabtree Creek Trail at the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and Crabtree Valley Boulevard. A similar pedestrian tunnel was built this summer under Lake Boone Trail.
