Levi Beckwith, who coached outstanding boys basketball teams at Southern Durham and Raleigh Word of God,  is the new boys basketball coach at Clinton High.

Lance Beckwith became the first basketball player from Wake Tech
Community College to accept an athletic scholarship on Wednesday when
he signed with the University of Central Missouri on Wednesday.

Erasto Hatchett, who coached the Raleigh Word of God boys basketball
team last season, is no longer on the school staff, Rev. Frank Summerfield, the school founder, said on Wednesday.

C.J. Leslie said Wednesday morning that he hasn't made a final list
of schools that he is considering, but that he is most interested in
Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, N.C. State and Oregon.

Raleigh Word of God had an easy time defeating Raleigh St. David's 70-34 on Wednesday night.

Standout C.J. Leslie had 10 points with limited playing time.

The Rams play Fayetteville Trinity at home on Friday night. Fayetteville Trinity is led by University of South Carolina recruit Damontre Harris.

Leslie says he is "wide open."

Word of God may be near announcing new basketball coach

John Wall leads Word of God to an 82-64 win over Ravenscroft.

Ravenscroft is expecting a capacity crowd for its game at home next Wednesday against Raleigh Word of God. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. If you want to see Word of God's John Wall, the top-ranked basketball recruit in the country, you'd better get there early.

Ravenscroft won the first game between the two private schools. The Ravens are led by Duke recruit Ryan Kelly, who is the Ravens' all-time leading scorer.

The date of the game was incorrect in Wednesday's News & Observer.
