What to Watch on Thursday: Season finale of 'Raising Hope'

The Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Elena meets Elijah when she searches for Katherine in a small Pennsylvania town. Meanwhile, Stefan reveals his surprising plan for the future, and Klaus gains a new appreciation for Silas' powers.

Fall to Grace (8pm, HBO) - A short profile of former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey, who resigned from office in 2004 after announcing he was gay, but started a new life by studying to become an Episcopal priest and offering spiritual guidance to women in prison. Adrienne has a review.

Raising Hope (9pm, Fox) - In the first part of the Season 3 finale, Burt (Garret Dillahunt, right)learns he's Jewish during a visit from his folks, so he uses music to get acquainted with his heritage and prepare for his bar mitzvah. Later, Burt and Barney visit Maw Maw's childhood home and discover that their mother may still be alive. Shirley Jones guest stars.

Project Runway (9pm, Lifetime) - Artwork at the Guggenheim inspires the designers to create their own print textiles. Designers Tracy Reese and Rachel Roy are guest judges.

North Carolina Weekend (9pm, UNC-TV) - The magazine show looks at Durham's Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and the Taverna Agora restaurant in Raleigh.

Scandal (10pm, ABC) - Hollis seeks Olivia's help when his daughter is abducted. Also, David remains in peril, finding safety at Pope and Associates.

Comic Book Men (10pm, AMC) - The guys play charades with a comic book theme, while Walt seizes an opportunity to purchase original artwork from a favorite artist.

What to watch on Tuesday: Doubled-up sitcoms and old school superheroes

Pioneers of Television: Superheroes (8pm, UNC-TV) - This installment looks back at TV superheroes from bygone eras, including "Superman" from the 1950s, "Batman" from the 1960s, "Wonder Woman" and "The Incredible Hulk" from the 1970s and "The Greatest American Hero" from the 1980s. Interviews with Adam West, Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, Lynda Carter, Lou Ferrigno, William Katt and Robert Culp.

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - Oh, these two back-to-back episodes of "Raising Hope" remind us that Fox has canceled "Ben and Kate." [INSERT PREFERRED CURSE WORDS HERE] The first episode is a bit of a weird crossover in which Sabrina's mom hires the "Modern Family" camera crew to film Sabrina's wedding to Jimmy (yep, they get married tonight!). In the second episode, the family takes Hope to Los Angeles for a taping of "Yo Zappa Do," but Jimmy's fear of flying means it's a road trip.

Henry Ford: American Experience (9pm, UNC-TV) - A profile of Henry Ford, the Ford Motor Company founder whose Model T in 1908 changed the auto industry. Ford also instituted the assembly line and investigated his employees through the company's Sociological Department. The documentary also details his anti-Semitism.

Happy Endings (9pm, ABC) - ABC has yanked the cruel-but-funny "Don't Touch the B in Apartment 23" for two new back-to-back episodes of "Happy Endings" from here on out. So it's a bad news/good news kind of thing.

Edge of America (9pm, Travel) - Host Geoff Edgers visits Pennsylvania, where he participates in a demolition derby, a haggis-eating contest, and a zombie-themed foot race.

The New Normal (9:30pm, NBC) - Bryan wishes to have a natural connection to the new baby, whatever that means. Also, Shania is upset to learn that her mother didn't breast-feed her when she was a baby.

Cougar Town (10pm, TBS) - Tom gets a new girlfriend and Bobby tries to improve his table manners on a pretend date with Ellie.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Get the facts from 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town'

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - Virginia becomes an extreme couponer to stock up on supplies when she believes an apocalyptic prophecy from an ancient calendar, and encourages the whole family to get ready for the end of the world.

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (8pm, ABC) - As I say each year: This is the highly informative stop-motion documentary of the actual true history of Santa Claus. Featuring the voices of Fred Astaire and Mickey Rooney, and starring Topper the Penguin, Winter Warlock and Burgermeister Meisterburger.

Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa (9pm, CW) - The Muppets unwittingly prevent three letters from reaching Santa Claus, so Kermit and his friends work to deliver the messages to the North Pole. Features Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, Uma Thurman, Jesse L. Martin and Jane Krakowski.

Happy Endings (9pm, ABC) - Jane and Alex's parents throw a big celebration to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the family mattress business, and Jane agonizes over coming up with an amusing toast to spring on her humorless dad. Meanwhile, Alex's parents are unaware that she and Dave have reunited.

Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 (9:30pm, ABC) - James makes his debut on "Dancing with the Stars" in Los Angeles. While he's away, Chloe runs a scam out of his New York penthouse.

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Adam and Kristina weather a serious health scare, while Sarah feels torn between Mark and Hank. Also, Amber and Ryan encounter obstacles and Zeek tries to redeem a childhood hero.

Vegas (10pm, CBS) - Katherine takes a special interest in the investigation into the rape and murder of a showgirl at the Stargazer Casino, while back at the Savoy, Savino lands an influential high roller and hopes his notoriety will convince other high-stakes gamblers to visit.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Ellen DeGeneres receives Mark Twain Prize

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - Burt scouts out a gay bar when Jimmy is invited to meet Sabrina's friend and his partner, but Virginia wonders why her husband has started spending so much time there, so she decides to find out for herself on Halloween.

Ellen DeGeneres: The Mark Twain Prize (8pm, UNC-TV) - Ellen DeGeneres is honored with the 15th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Among those paying tribute, Kristin Chenoweth, Steve Harvey, Sean Hayes, Jimmy Kimmel and Lily Tomlin.

Ben and Kate (8:30pm, Fox) - BJ helps Kate find a costume to wear to an attractive neighbor's Halloween party. Meanwhile, Ben and Tommy stay home and hand out candy in hopes of meeting women, but the evening takes a wild turn when Tommy accidentally eats some of BJ's "special" candy from Amsterdam.

Happy Endings (9pm, ABC) - Dave and Alex's inability to commit to a new apartment proves to be quite a challenge for their real estate agent, while Jane pulls out all the stops when she takes Penny car shopping.

Emily Owens, M.D. (9pm, CW) - Emily talks about safe sex to some girls at a local high school, and tries to forget about her feelings for Will.

Frontline: Big Sky, Big Money (10pm, UNC-TV) - How the Supreme Court's decision in the Citizens United case, which prohibited restrictions on the amounts of money that outside groups may spend to promote or oppose political candidates and causes, is affecting the senatorial race in Montana. The special also shows how the Obama and Romney campaigns use data analytics to increase voter turnout and shape the election.

The New Normal (10:30pm, NBC) - Bryan basks in the Halloween spirit by decorating the house, going to a pumpkin patch to spot celebrities and ruling over everyone's costumes. David finally rebels when Bryan insists on having a Honey Boo Boo theme.

What to Watch on Tuesday: A birthday bash and another debate

NC Gubernatorial Debate (7pm) - The second gubernatorial debate will air live on UNC-TV, WRAL, WTVD and WNCN (NBC-17) tonight. News 14 Carolina will broadcast the debate on delay at 8 p.m.

Hart of Dixie (8pm, CW) - Zoe discovers an error about herself in her alumni magazine, so she invites the reporter to town to set the record straight.

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - The Chances' plot to spring Maw Maw from a nursing home hits a snag when Virginia begins to wonder if she'll receive better care there than at home.

Ben and Kate (8:30pm, Fox) - Ben (Nat Faxon, left) throws a party to celebrate Kate's 21st birthday and invites her high-school friend Molly to the bash. Kate (Dakota Johnson, left) is only 21. That explains a lot.

Presidential Debate (9pm) - The second debate between President Barack Obama and former Massachusettes governor Mitt Romney airs on ABC, CBS, NBC, UNC-TV, C-SPAN, Fox, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC.

Emily Owens, M.D. (9pm, CW) - In this new CW drama, Emily Owens, an awkward first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital, tries to balance work with romance. Tonight, Emily (Mamie Gummer) begins her internship and discovers her old high school nemesis working there, as well as a guy she had a crush on in high school. Adrienne reviews.

Sons of Anarchy (10pm, FX) - Jax presents a dangerous proposal to the club.

Covert Affairs (10pm, USA) - Auggie, Joan and Arthur call on an old friend to help free Annie from prison in Russia.

Flipping Out (10pm, Bravo) - Jeff and Zoila clash over her work responsibilities, so much so that Jeff considers firing her. Elsewhere, Jeff's client suspects her house is haunted, so Jeff spends a night there to prove her wrong.

What to Watch on Tuesday: Can 'Dr. Horrible' sing his way into Evil League of Evil?

Jane's Journey (8pm, Animal Planet) - The television premiere of Lorenz Knauer's film about the personal and professional life of celebrated environmental activist Jane Goodall.

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - A social worker investigating a claim at the Chance house becomes suspicious of the family's treatment of Maw Maw and wonders if they're fit to care for her.

Ben and Kate (8:30pm, Fox) - Ben and Kate discover a list from an unfinished scavenger hunt that their dad created 15 years earlier, and they set out on a mission to find the remaining items. Go ahead and watch all the Fox comedies tonight: "New Girl" at 9 and "The Mindy Project" at 9:30.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (9pm, CW) - The popular web series starring Neil Patrick Harris (right) and Nate Fillion comes to regular TV tonight. In the inspired Josh Whedon musical, an aspiring super villain (Harris) tries to gain acceptance into the Evil League of Evil to impress a pretty girl at a laundromat. Unfortunately, his superhero arch nemesis, Captain Hammer (Fillion), keeps thwarting his attempts. If you've never seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Frontline: The Choice 2012 (9pm, UNC-TV) - The two-hour Season 31 premiere features profiles of President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

Go On (9pm, NBC) - Grieving causes Ryan to become a compulsive eater, triggering an intervention from the group.

Sons of Anarchy (10pm, FX) - SAMCRO explores new business opportunities. How's that for vague program info? Next week, "stuff happens."

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Kristina shares her medical news with the family. Also, Victor's baseball game makes Joel nervous and Sarah and Hank share a sensitive moment.

Vegas (10pm, CBS) - Mia's father, a hot-headed Chicago mob boss with a gambling problem, causes trouble for Savino when he visits the Savoy.

Ink Master (10pm, Spike) - The second season of this competition reality series is features a tattoo artist from Fayetteville, Steven Givens (aka Kay Kutta).

What to Watch on Tuesday: Melanie Griffith in 'Raising Hope' premiere

History Detectives (8pm, UNC-TV) - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta helps return a North Vietnamese soldier's diary to his family. Also, the team investigates whether a notebook of liquor recipes belongs to a Prohibition-era bootlegger, and a ledger containing details on how Native American actors were treated.

Hart of Dixie (8pm, CW) - In the season 2 opener, Zoe feels torn between George and Wade. Meanwhile, Lemon returns her wedding gifts and makes strides toward independence.

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - In the Season 2 premiere, the Chances meet Sabrina's mother (Melanie Griffith, left) at a funeral for her grandmother. The grandmother's videotaped will has a big impact on Jimmy and Sabrina's relationship.

Ben and Kate (8:30pm, Fox) - Kate lies about her residence in order to get Maddie into a better school district, but when her plan falls apart, she must admit the truth to Maddie's principal (Alan Ruck). Also, new episodes tonight of "The New Girl" at 9 and "The Mindy Project" at 9:30.

NCIS: Los Angeles (9pm, CBS) - The body of a retired marine is found at a bomb-making compound in Afghanistan, following a strike on the facility. The team investigates to determine why the soldier was there and if he betrayed the U.S.

The New Normal (9:30pm, NBC) - David plans a family dinner to tell his mother about the baby. Also, mother-in-law miseries plague Goldie and Shania fears her father will win a custody battle.

Sons of Anarchy (10pm, FX) - A new enemy presents itself to SAMCRO.

Parenthood (10pm, NBC) - Kristina encourages Max to branch out even though she may not be able to help him, while Sarah entertains Hank's daughter and gains more insight into her boss. Also, Victor tries a new activity, offering Julia and Joel a glimpse of the future.

Private Practice (10pm, ABC) - The doctors gather at Addison's home to reminisce, and Sheldon works with a suicidal patient who makes a startling revelation.

What to Watch on Tuesday: A custody battle on 'Raising Hope' finale

Glee (8pm, Fox) - The glee kids do disco as they salute the 1977 movie "Saturday Night Fever."

Ringer (9pm, CW) - In the Season 1 finale, Bridget realizes she must tell Andrew her real identity. Meanwhile, Bodaway Macawi closes in on Bridget, and Machado is forced off the case.

New Girl (9pm, Fox) - Jess babysits Russell's daughter for the weekend and has her first encounter with his ex-wife. Also, a pregnancy scare sends Cece and Schmidt into a panic.

Raising Hope (9:30pm, Fox) - The Season 2 finale involves a custody battle for baby Hope due to surprising revelations from a TV tabloid show about Hope's serial-killer mom.

Frontline: The Real CSI (10pm, UNC-TV) - The reliability of forensic science and courtroom presentations of forensic evidence are examined. Included are the Casey Anthony case, the FBI investigation of the Madrid terrorist bombing and capital cases in Mississippi.

Amish Out of Order (10pm, NGC) - A new series focusing on former members of Amish communities as they face the challenges of living in modern society. In the series premiere, ex-Amish brothers Chris and Reuben Yoder help out an Amish friend who wants to leave the sect.

What to Watch on Tuesday: 'Justified' finale, Len Goodman explores Titanic legacy

Glee (8pm, Fox) - "Glee" returns to the schedule and with it, Blaine's older brother -- a hotshot (and hot) Hollywood actor played by Matthew Bomer ("White Collar").

Titanic with Len Goodman (8pm, UNC-TV) - The legacy of the Titanic is explored by "Dancing with the Stars" judge Len Goodman (left), who once worked as an apprentice welder for the company that built the ship. Goodman visits Belfast, where the Titanic was built, and Southampton, England, home to many of the dead. He also meets with descendants of passengers and crew.

Deadliest Catch (9pm, Discovery) - A slashed quota for crabs forces the captains to make choices about where to fish in the Season 8 premiere.

New Girl (9pm, Fox) - A nervous Jess invites Russell to spend a weekend at the loft and he ends up getting along a little too well with the guys. Also, Winston starts working for a radio shock jock and meets Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (appearing as himself).

Justified (10pm, FX) - In tonight's Season 3 finale, Raylan (Timothy Olyphant, left) is raging after a friend's murder and goes after everyone he holds responsible, leading up to a final showdown with a surprising twist.

Body of Proof (10pm, ABC) - The past comes back to haunt Megan in the Season 2 finale, when evidence in a homicide case points to a serial killer she helped convict.

Also tonight, Hope's serial killer mother is the focus of a tabloid TV show on "Raising Hope" (9:30pm, Fox).

What to Watch on Tuesday: No lives lost on this week's 'Raising Hope'

Raising Hope (8pm, Fox) - I didn't care at all for last week's episode featuring the tragic slaughter of genius guide pig, Mr. Curly Tail. But it was a rare misstep for this excellent show, so all is forgiven -- barring future cute animal deaths. Tonight, Virginia (Martha Plimpton, left) plants a seed of jealousy in Jimmy's head when Sabrina finds a handsome new study partner. Also, Bert becomes obsessed with a wall figurine.

American Experience: Grand Coulee Dam (8pm, UNC-TV) - An American Experience documentary on the history of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River in Washington, which was one of the centerpiece projects of FDR's New Deal during the Great Depression. A controversial undertaking, it transformed the Pacific Northwest for good and bad, providing needed energy to the growing cities of Portland and Seattle, even as it wiped out entire towns, dislocated Colville Indian Reservation tribes, and blocked the ability of salmon to reach spawning grounds. A repeat of last year's documentary on the Panama Canal airs at 9:30.

Cougar Town (8:30pm, ABC) - "Dancing with the Stars" is sparing us their one-hour "recap" show this week, so that means we get a new "Cougar Town." Win! Tonight, Jules gets cold feet when Travis volunteers to take her wedding photos. Well no, I guess ABC is not sparing us the recap/repeat dancing show after all. They must really hate "Cougar Town," which they had on the schedule yesterday...

New Girl (9pm, Fox) - Jess and Cece have a falling out after Jess learns that Cece hasn't been honest with her, and Winston struggles with being the only one to know about Cece and Schmidt's secret affair.

Justified (10pm, FX) - While Raylan closes in on the crazier-every-week Robert Quarles, Boyd and Dickie Bennett team up in a last-ditch attempt to recover the fortune left behind by Dickie's mother, Mags. Next week's episode is the season finale.
