Blah "Common Law" offers another set of bickering buddies

The appetite for the buddy cop genre is voracious or at least that's what TV folk seem to think. Certainly it's a fav of the USA network.

So the home of "Psych" and "White Collar" brings us "Common Law" (10 tonight, USA), a too cute, too blah show about police partners with a relationship so difficult the department sends them to couples therapy.

That's where we meet Travis (Michael Ealy) and Wes (Warren Kole); their therapist, Dr. Ryan (Sonya Walger), is having a session with them and other married couples. Naturally, there comes a point where they have to explain they aren't in that kind of partnership.

What to Watch on Wednesday: 'The B in Apartment 23.' Trust me.

Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (9:30pm, ABC) - A very funny new sitcom about an optimistic girl from the midwest who moves to New York and finds herself a roommates who "has the morals of a pirate." The best part (and there are many wonderful parts) is the evil roomie's best friend is James Van Der Beek, playing himself. Check out my review.

What to Watch on Wednesday: NBC premieres 'Bent' sitcom

Criminal Minds (9pm, CBS) - The BAU searches for a kidnapper after an emaciated boy is found in an Arizona desert and another boy disappears.

Bent (9pm, NBC) - Here's what NBC does whenever they get a good new comedy: they barely promote it and then burn off the episodes really fast. I hope this isn't what they are doing with "Bent," but it sure feels like it. "Bent" is about a super chill contractor dude (David Walton) who tries to charm a newly divorced, high strung single mom (Amanda Peet) while he and his crew work on her home. Also stars JB Smoove, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jesse Plemons, who played Landry on "Friday Night Lights."  Episodes air at 9 and 9:30. Note: The other two funny NBC sitcoms that never got a decent chance -- "100 Questions" and "Perfect Couples" -- also starred David Walton.

Happy Endings (9:30pm, ABC) - As much as I'm getting behind "Bent," I do not condone skipping "Happy Endings" at 9:30!! Tonight, Dave becomes the target of a bully at his gym, so onetime bully Alex coaches him on how to work out his problems.

Duck Dynasty (10pm, A&E) - In the premiere episode of this new reality show about a Louisiana family who operate a thriving business manufacturing duck-hunting gear, Willie gets fed up with the lax work attitudes of other family members. Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Cameron has a reunion with his estranged clown partner at a funeral for their former mentor, and Phil gets bullied by a real estate rival when he tries to land an important listing. All the ABC comedies are new tonight. "Happy Endings" is always especially joyous.

Revenge for Real (10pm, ABC) - A series about real life stories of vengeance begins with the 2001 murder of millionaire Ted Ammon in his East Hampton mansion. Cynthia McFadden talks to his convicted killer.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Lassiter hires Shawn and Gus to get to the bottom of strange occurrences at his new condo.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Barbara Walters tries to fascinate

Work of Art (9pm, Bravo) - The artists visit an idyllic small town in New York's Hudson Valley and then must create a portrait of a resident. The guest judge is Richard Phillips.

Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People (9:31pm, ABC) - Who does Barbara Walters find fascinating? The Kardashians, Donald Trump, Simon Cowell, and Katy Perry (left), to name a few. And probably not much suspense as to who her secret #1 pick will likely be (cough Gabby Giffords cough). (UPDATE: When I'm wrong, I admit it. Walters picked Steve Jobs as the most fascinating man of the year.)

Also, Jane realizes she accidentally gave her housekeeper the cash she'd put aside to pay for a Christmas vacation instead of the $200 Christmas tip that she intended. "The Middle" and "Modern Family" also have Christmas-themed episodes tonight.

American Horror Story (10pm, FX) - Violet learns about the rules of the house and Constance is questioned by police. We also learn how Larry got burned (it wasn't trying to save his family, says show creator Ryan Murphy).
