Last night's finale saw major sniffles, a minor meltdown from Tim, a made-up runway show and maybe some cheating? (It was also brought to you by the letter 'M', apparently.)
Wait, this isn't the last episode of the worst season of Project Runway? Sigh. Fine.
The three finalists have spent several weeks work on a 12-outfit runway show with a $9,000 budget.
Vampire Diaries (8pm, CW) - Damon tells Stefan the real reason why he returned to Mystic Falls. Stefan is stunned, so I'm assuming it has something to do with Virginia tourism.
Community (8pm, NBC) - I'm still singing last week's awesome "Gettin' Rid of Britta" in my head and hoping for another classic moment tonight. Sounds promising: Abed's films seem to predict the future, and Pierce (Chevy Chase) tries to help Britta quit smoking.
The Office (9pm, NBC) - Another episode about office rumors???
Grey's Anatomy (9pm, ABC) - Kim Raver ("24" "Lipstick Jungle") joins Seattle Grace as an Iraq war veteran who also happens to be a cardiothoracic surgeon. Also, Izzie returns with her high school mentor (Joel Grey), who is seeking treatment for dementia.
Project Runway (10pm, Lifetime) - Tonight is part one of a two-part season finale. The final three designers prepare for a Bryant Park Runway Show under the watchful eye of mentor Tim Gunn.
The second-to-last episode of a boring season has come and gone, and well, there were a lot of tears.
It'll be good to go back to New York City for the next season. L.A. never seemed like the right fit and most of the season's challenges were uninspired. This episode, however, did bring back some of our favorite things: an inspiration-in-a-museum challenge, sharp critiques from Nina and Tim, petty backbiting and, best of all, really awful clothes!
Everybody's stealing on Project Runway! Finally, some real drama!
In this week's challenge, the final six must create an outfit that complements an outfit they've already made. "Complementing" usually means using the same color palette, fabric, or copying the exact same style as someone else, as it were.
Tensions in the workroom starting to run high and cute boy Logan has finally worn out his welcome. Althea accuses him of stealing her zipper collar idea (if it sounds stupid, that's because it is) and later, Irina irrationally accuses Althea of stealing her oversized sweater concept - only this time she saves the venom for the runway. Because Irina is a huge, talented b----. (Logan said they call her "Meana Irina," which is a lamer, but more appropriate nickname, I suppose.)
Let's look at the outfits with some comments from the judges (and me!):
Sign up now at Macys.com to be the first to find out when this little black dress from Irina Shabayeva hits stores.
Irina, as many of you know, won the challenge Thursday night on Project Runway to have her dress design in Macy's stores for the holidays.
The dress, which is a contemporary spin on the LBD, will be an INC International Concepts-branded dress and should hit select stores in the first week of December. Made of rayon matte jersey, the dress will have the butterfly-embellishment on it, shown here. It will sell for $139 and should come in sizes small through extra large.
Martine Reardon, executive vice president of Macy's who was one of the judges Thursday, said Irine won because of how well her designs fit with the INC brand. “It is tremendous to see
what these young and talented designers can do in a very short time and with such imagination. Irina’s fresh take on fashion is the ideal fit for our INC brand,” Reardon said. “Our customer will love her ultra-feminine aesthetic."
I don't know about you all, but I liked Irine's flowy, patterned dress better than this one. This seems a little more South Beach than heartland USA, which tends to be Macy's customer base.
(BTW, that's model Katie Sticksel modeling the dress. Nice deal for both of them.)
Thursday night's Project Runway challenge -- taking copies of the L.A. Times and turning them into interesting fashion designs -- was a hoot! And goes to show there is indeed a bright future for the print newspaper business. (Take that Michael Moore!)
Seriously, I loved Irina's trench coat with the scrunched up paper collar! And Christopher's "feathery" gown? I couldn't get enough. I won't spoil it for those of you who have DVR'd it, but a certain liar had to go home.
Sigh. If only the show wasn't reality TV ...
The assignment on last night's "Project Runway" sounded deceptively simple. Design an outfit -- any outfit -- for pregnant (with twins) super model and actress Rebecca Romijn.
Despite being a little star-struck and a lot freaked out over designing maternity wear, most of the designers did okay. A few of them designed big hits, a few designed big misses, and one laid a giant egg. And he did it on purpose.
Royal Pains (10pm, USA) - For the season finale of "Royal Pains," USA is running a promo that shows a montage of the episode's little dramas and then asks, "Is this the end of Hank Med?" No chance! Don't they know this is cable's most popular summer series!? One of the dramas on Hank's plate tonight is Divya's pending marriage. If she marries, she must leave her job. We are confident the show is coming back, but it wouldn't be the same without Reshma Shetty's genius PA, Divya (left). Make it happen, USA.
Project Runway (10pm, Lifetime) - The contestants have to make a dress for a celebrity. Wow. Please don't give anything away, Lifetime.
Verminators (10pm, Discovery) - They should just rename this show "My Rat-Infested Life."
It finally happened. "Project Runway" has finally returned to our televisions. It is on a different network and in a different city, but it still has Tim Gunn as mentor and Heidi Klum as host, and together they definitely make it work.
After an overly-long two-hour "All-Star Challenge" special at 8pm, the main event got underway at 10pm. Heidi and Tim welcomed the new designers to LA with a rooftop champagne toast, and we see that the group of 16 is made up of a refreshingly wide range in ages, ethnicities, styles, and backgrounds.
