Smithfield Community Park and the Smithfield-Selma High School softball team will co-host a benefit prep softball scrimmage jamboree on Saturday at Smithfield Community Park. The event, which features 12 teams, will begin at 9 a.m. and continues until about 5 p.m.
Proceeds will support the Miracle League of Johnston County, a non-profit organization that provides a baseball league for the mentally and physically handicapped children at no charge. Games are scheduled during spring and fall seasons at the Smithfield Community Park.
Team participating include in the softball scrimmages are Smithfield-Selma, Fayetteville Pine Forest, Clayton, Princeton, Triton, Corinth Holders, Harnett Central, South Johnston, South View, West Johnston and North Johnston.

The annual Johnston County high schools' girls soccer championship, The Four Oaks Bank Cup, helps kick off the spring sports season in the area next week. The tournament will include all eight Johnston County squads. Monday's quarterfinal round is played at four different sites, with action on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday all at South Johnston High School's Ronald Avery Stadium.

The championship match is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night.

Triton upset Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference No. 2 seed South Johnston in the league's conference girls tournament last night, costing the Trojans a bid to the championship game and another shot at regular-season champ C.B. Aycock. The Trojans will still enter the state tournament as the conference's No. 2 seed unless Triton wins Friday night.
