Tuesday's area prep playoff schedule: baseball and softball playoffs

Tuesday brings another busy day in the world of high school playoffs. We've got two baseball games set and seven first-round softball games on tap in the Johnston County and Garner area. Here's what we know so far.

The Gators reel off a seven-run fifth inning to end things early.

Prep Softball, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference Championship Game

South Johnston 7, C.B. Aycock 1

The Trojans take the league's No. 1 playoff seed.

Prep Baseball, State Playoffs

Princeton to visit N.C. School of Science and Math in girls 1-A soccer playoffs

Princeton, which qualified for the 1-A state girls soccer playoffs as a wild card team after sharing the Carolina 1-A Conference championshp with Goldsboro and Rosewood, will visit N.C. School of Science and Math (11-1-2) in a first round game. The Bulldogs are 5-6-1 this season. Princeton, Rosewood and Goldsboro were all 4-2 in conference play this season.

The match will be played Tuesday at 6 p.m. at N.C. School of Science and Math.

North Johnston High moves Tuesday baseball and softball games to Princeton

North Johnston High School's baseball and softball games against Roanoke Rapids, scheduled for Tuesday will be played at Princeton High School. The Panthers' home baseball and softball fields were damaged by last weekend's tornadoes. The games will begin around 6:30, after the completion of the junior varsity games.

South Johnston downs Rosewood in Deacon Jones Invitational softball opener; tourney concludes today at Princeton

South Johnston topped Rosewood 10-5 Thursday night in the opener of the Deacon Jones Invitational softball tournament at Princeton High School.
Whitney Williams homered, tripled and singled, driving in four runs for South, while Kristen Jernigan was 4-for-4. Kaitlyn Barbour and Courtney Woods also had two hits each for South.
Lauren Higgins picked up the win for South Johnston, which actually trailed 5-3 in the fifth inning.
Rosewood's Kelsey Kornegay homered twice, while Alicia Burns contributed two hits for the Eagles.
Today's schedule at Princeton features the host Bulldogs taking on Rosewood at 4 p.m., followed by South Johnston vs. Princeton at 7 p.m.

SSS and South win in baseball; former Princeton standout works complete game for Campbell

SSS notches softball win
Smithfield-Selma downed GNRC rival Southeast Raleigh 12-1 in softball Wednesday. Amanda Mitchell and Amber Parrish both had two-hit nights for the Spartans, while Alyssa Horne picked up the pitching win, scattering four Bulldog hits.
Bulldog alum gets win for Campbell
Former Princeton standout Colin Parker worked his first complete-game pitching victory for Campbell Wednesday as the Camels topped N.C. Central, 8-2. Parker, a senior left-hander, struck out four in the seven-inning game and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Murphy works 1-hitter for South
South Johnston pitcher Emily Murphy held Eastern Wayne to a single hit in a 12-2 softball victory Wednesday night. The Trojans pounded out 16 hits on the day.
Kristen Jernigan was 4-for-4 with a double, while Courtney Woods, Whitney Williams, Anna Reaves and Liz Barbee all had two-hit days as the Trojans moved to 11-1 overal, and 6-1 in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference.

Donald Johnson and Ben Jacobs earn spots on all-state boys basketball team

Donald Johnson of Garner and Princeton's Ben Jacobs were named to the third-team of the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Associaiton All-State prep boys basketball team recently.
Johnson led Garner in scoring this past season (17.2 PPG) and helped the Trojans to a 26-1 record and the Greater Neuse River 4-A Conference regular-season and tournament championships.
Jacobs led the Triangle-area in scoring (27.0) and rebounding (14.1) this season and helped the Bulldogs to a share of the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season championship.
